ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Appalachian State University men's tennis overcame an early deficit and handed UNC Asheville its first loss of the season, picking up a 4-3 road win on Sunday.
The Mountaineers (3-2) dropped the doubles point to the Bulldogs (4-1), but rallied to win four of six singles matches en route to the win.
Appalachian's No. 3 tandem of Trey Morris and Jan-Willem Kleynhans grabbed a 6-3 win in doubles, but the Mountaineers were unable to grab victories at No. 1 or No. 2 and fell into an early hole.
Oliver Casey got the momentum rolling in singles play as he grabbed a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 spot. UNCA grabbed victories at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, but App State reeled off three-straight wins to wrap up the match.
Scott Webster earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 4 while Kleynhans was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at No. 5. Morris finished off the Bulldogs by dominating in a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 spot.
Appalachian State returns to action when it faces former Southern Conference rival Wofford on the road on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
