BOONE, N.C. – Despite grabbing wins at the top two singles slots, Appalachian State University men's tennis was unable to grab two more points in a hard-fought, 5-2 loss to Presbyterian on Friday at Deer Valley Racquet Club.
The Mountaineers (2-2) fell behind early as the Blue Hose (4-1) grabbed the doubles point en route to their second win in the last week.
Appalachian's No 2 doubles tandem of Jack Maddocks and Scott Webster earned a 6-3 victory, but the other two Mountaineer tandems fell in tiebreakers as Zach Bost and Oliver Casey suffered a 7-6 (6-4) loss at No. 1 and Jan-Willem Kleynhans and Trey Morris dropped a 7-6 (8-6) decision at No. 3.
Bost and Casey got App State on the board in singles play as Casey was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at No. 1 and Bost grabbed a 7-5, 0-6, 6-2 win at No. 2.
Presbyterian grabbed wins at No. 3 and No. 5 singles play before earning the match-clinching point when Diego Manzanas defeated Appalachian's Scott Webster by a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) final.
The Mountaineers return to action on Sunday at 3 p.m. when they head to UNC Asheville. It will be the first of nine-straight matches away from home.
