Men's Tennis Rolls to Two Wins on Sunday

BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University men's tennis was dominant in its first two home matches of the season, picking up a pair of 7-0 wins over Lees-McRae and North Carolina A&T on Sunday at Deer Valley Racquet Club.

The Mountaineers (2-1) did not drop a set in singles or doubles play en route to their first two wins of the season while Lees-McRae (0-1) and North Carolina A&T (0-2) failed to score their first wins of the year.

Sunday's first match came against the Bobcats and Appalachian set the tone early, rolling to three wins in doubles play to earn the first point of the match. Zach Bost and Oliver Casey took a 6-1 win at the No. 1 spot while Jack Maddocks and Scott Webster were 6-0 winners at No. 2. Robert Jenkins and Jan-Willem Kleynhans finished out doubles with a 6-2 victory at No. 3.

In singles play, Casey was a 6-0, 6-4 winner at No. 1 while Bost earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2. Maddocks was dominant in a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 while Webster blanked his opponent, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 4 position. Kleynhans took a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 and Jenkins closed out singles play with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6.

North Carolina A&T proved to be no match for the Mountaineers in Sunday's second contest, as Appalachian again rolled in every singles and doubles contest. Bost/Casey were 6-1 victors at No. 1 doubles while Maddocks/Webster again blanked their opponent, 6-0, at No. 2. Jenkins/Kleynhans finished as 6-2 winners in the No. 3 spot.

Casey once again earned a win at No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-0) while Bost earned his second victory at No. 2 via a 6-3, 6-2 final. Maddocks cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 while Webster scored a 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4. Trey Morris stepped in at No. 5 singles against the Aggies and picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win while Jenkins shut out his opponent, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 6 position.

The Mountaineers are back in action on Friday when they play host to Presbyterian at 2 p.m. at Deer Valley Racquet Club.
