Field Hockey Defeated by Ball State

Harrisonburg, Va. – Appalachian State Field Hockey was defeated by Ball State on Monday 2-0 in a neutral site match located in Harrisonburg, Va.

The Cardinals (1-1) scored early on in the ninth minute of the game when Tori Widrick took the dribble in to the right side of the goal, making the score 1-0.

The Mountaineers (0-2) could not catch up as they dropped behind 2-0 at the 58:41 minute mark.  Lexi Kavanaugh scored on the right side of the goal off of a pass from Bethany Han.

Sophomore Caroline Phillips led the team in shots with eight, followed by sophomore Lindsay Amador with five.  Senior Sarah Anderson played in goal all 70 minutes and recorded seven saves.

Appalachian outshot Ball State 21-17 and earned 10 penalty corners to the Cardinals' five. 

With the loss, Appalachian drops to 0-2 on the 2013 season.

The Mountaineers will hit the road on Sept. 8 to play Vermont in Davidson, N.C. at 11:30 a.m.
