BOONE, N.C. -
Appalachian State University women's track and field had a strong finish as
they faced off against Gardner-Webb and Winthrop in the Appalachian
Pre-Conference Meet.
Senior D'Shawrna
McLucas led the Mountaineers in the 55m dash as she finished second,
crossing the line at a personal-best 7.37 which Tatyana Bryant finished third overall, running a personal-best
7.49.
Kayla Schneider paced
the Apps in the mile run as she took home the first-place finish with a 5:15.09
and Samantha Campanaro finished
third overall with a 5:23.68.
In the 400m dash Breahna
Morrison claimed the second place spot and Shelby Howell clinched the first place spot in the 800m run with a
2:15.34. Taryn Stern and Maria Stickley rounded out the scoring
in the 800m run as they finished second and third overall.
Ana DeLeon would
lead Appalachian in field events as she finished first in the weight throw,
tossing for 16.47m, while Brianna Tate threw
for 16.18m to finish second and Jasmine
Suydam finished third.
The Mountaineers claimed the top-two spots in the high jump
and the pole vault as Mary Theresa Montgomery clinched the
first-place finish and Janet Watson finished
second overall in the high jump. Cassie
Crawford claimed the first place spot with a 3.67m jump and Audrey Diener placed second in the pole
vault with a 3.67m jump.
Suydam, Tate and DeLeon earned the top-three places in the
shot put as Suydam threw for 13.46m for the first-place finish.
Appalachian will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 23 when
they travel to Winston-Salem for the Southern Conference Indoor Championships.
The Apps will look to take the trophy home to Boone for the second straight
year and earn its second championship of the triple crown. The meet is slated
to start at 3 p.m.
