Field Hockey Suffers Loss to Radford

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University field hockey suffered a 2-0 loss to NorPac opponent Radford on Friday night at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

The match would be a battle as Radford scored two minutes in off a penalty corner. Alayna Versage found Stacey Mackintosh, who shot from the left side of the goal to put the Highlanders up 1-0.

There would not be another goal until the second half when Radford's Marianna Parker took the ball in from the left side of the field and was able to convert on an open shot.

The Mountaineers would not have an answer as the Highlanders took the match 2-0.

Laura Malinoski led the Apps with three shots on the night. Caroline Phillips followed, shooting the ball twice. Dana Wetmore and Robbi Jensen each added one shot.

Goalkeeper Sarah Anderson got the loss and recorded four saves on the match.

The Mountaineers were outshot by the Highlanders 14 to seven, but were awarded seven penalty corners to Radford's five.

Appalachian will return to action on Sunday for a match against Liberty at Kidd Brewer Stadium when they celebrate Emily Knapp and Anderson for senior day, beginning at 12 p.m.
