BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian
State University field hockey is set to start its 2012 season as it travel to
Davidson this weekend to take on Georgetown and William and Mary. The
Mountaineers will face-off against the Hoyas on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and the
Tribe on Sunday at 4 p.m.
Scouting Appalachian State
The Mountaineers come into the 2012 season with eight
returners and 11 new players to add to its roster. App State finished the 2011
campaign with a 2-18 overall record and a 1-5 record in the NorPac.
Appalachian returns its top goal scorer in sophomore Jessi
Stuart as well as senior goalkeeper Sarah Anderson. Stuart played in 19 games
last season, starting 11 with five goals and three assists, while Anderson
played in seven matches with 18 saves and a .667 save percentage.
The Mountaineers will look to four seniors, Anderson,
forward Megan High, defender Casey Lammando and forward Lesley Thomas to lead
its young team in the 2012 season.
App State concluded its 2012 pre-season going 1-1, falling
to James Madison, 8-0 before defeating Radford, 2-1.
The Mountaineers were led Lammando and Emily Knapp who each
put up a goal against Radford.
Scouting Georgetown
The Hoyas finished its 2011 campaign with a 3-15 overall
record and a 1-5 record in the BIG EAST.
Georgetown comes into the 2012 season with a veteran roster
of 10 seniors and four juniors. Leading goal scorer, Catherine Shugrue will
look to be a threat on offense after having seven goals and four assists last
season, while both Annie Wilson and Charlotte Tierney added five goals and one
assist for the Hoyas.
Senior goalkeeper Briana Pereira, who saw action in 17 matches,
posted a 2-13 overall record with a .653 save percentage.
Scouting William and Mary
The Tribe capped off their 2011 season posting a 6-11 overall
record and a 1-7 record in the Colonial Athletic Association.
William and Mary returns its three top point leaders from
the 2011campaign. Senior Leah Zamesnik ended the year with seven goals and one
assist, while sophomore Emma Clifton and Jesse Ebner both added four goals on
the season.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Frey is slated to start
in net this season after seeing action in only six matches in 2011.

to take on Robert Morris at 11 a.m., before capping off the weekend with a
match against Saint Louis on Mon., Sept. 3 at 11 a.m.
