Field Hockey Drops Match to Davidson, 4-0

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Appalachian State University field hockey fell to Davidson College, 4-0 in its third NorPac match up of the 2012 season.

The Mountaineers fell behind in the 23rd minute when the Wildcats were able to lift the ball up over the keeper's shoulder, giving them the only goal they would need to clinch the win.

Davidson took the 1-0 lead into halftime, outshooting the Apps 12-4 and drawing four penalty corners, while the Mountaineers were unable to draw one.

 The Wildcats took the 2-0 advantage when Brooke Osbourne was able to sneak a rebound past keeper Sarah Anderson.

Davidson found the back of the net two more times in less than eight minutes to take the 4-0 victory over the Black and Gold.

Freshman Lindsay Amador led the way for App State with two shots on goal, while four other Mountaineers each found the net one time.  

Anderson took the loss in the cage playing 64 minutes with seven saves, while freshman keeper Cristina Ceppi saw six minutes of playing time between the pipes.

With the loss, the Apps falls to 2-9 overall on the season and 0-3 in the NorPac, while Davidson improves to 5-6 overall on the season and 3-0 in the NorPac.

Appalachian State will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 7 when they return to Boone to take on Longwood in NorPac competition. The match is scheduled to start at noon at Kidd Brewer Stadium.
