MUNCIE, Ind. -
Appalachian State University field hockey team picked up its third win of the
2012 season, defeating Ball State, 2-0 this afternoon.
The first half of play remained scoreless, as neither team
was able to find the back of the net. The Mountaineers outshot the Cardinals 9-2
in the first half and drew two corners.
App State was the first to light up the scoreboard as
freshman Hanna French scored her first
career goal off a pass from Casey Lammando just ten minutes into the second half of play.
The Apps extended its lead to 2-0 when Dana Wetmore netted
her fifth goal of the season when she fired an open shot from 10 yards out. The
Black and Gold outshot Ball State 18-5 on the afternoon, while Lesley Thomas
put three shots on goal and Wetmore had
two.
Senior goalkeeper Sarah Anderson recorded her first career shutout, posting three
saves, bringing her season total to 112.
With the win Appalachian improves to 3-11 overall on the
season, while Ball State falls to 3-12 overall on the season.
Appalachian State will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 19
when they travel to Lynchburg, Va. to take on Liberty in a NorPac match. The
match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
