Appalachian Earns National Academic Award

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University field hockey was honored as one of 57 Division I programs to earn the National Academic Team Award from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

To earn this prestigious award, the squad must have a cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 or higher through the first semester of the 2010-11 academic year. Appalachian was able to acquire this honor due to it having 12 student-athletes earning a 3.25 or higher GPA and being named to ASU's Fall Academic Honor Roll. Only three other schools in the NorPac achieved this honor (Cal, Davidson and Pacific).

Since head coach Brandi Alexander took over the reigns in 2006, her squad has attained this honor ever year.
