Baseball Routs UNCG, 19-4
GREENSBORO, N.C. ? Isaac Harrow drove in seven runs with a grand slam and a three-run triple to lead Appalachian State University baseball to a 19-4 rout over UNC Greensboro on Saturday afternoon at UNCG Stadium.

Harrow's seven RBI all came in the third and fourth innings, as his mammoth grand slam to straightaway center field gave Appalachian (29-17, 14-13 SoCon) a 4-0 lead in the third and his bases-loaded triple off the very top of right-field wall capped a four-run fourth that extended the ASU advantage to 8-0.

The Mountaineers scored twice in the top of the sixth inning to stretch the lead to 10-3 and added five runs in the eighth and four in the ninth to close out the 19-run explosion, which came less than 24 hours after they managed only a leadoff home run in a 3-1 loss to UNCG.

ASU's 19 runs matched its second-highest scoring output of the season while its 24 hits were a season high.

Harrow's second seven-RBI performance of the season (he also drove in seven in an 11-5 win at Gardner-Webb on Feb. 25) extended his school record for single-season RBI to 72, putting him just 15 shy of the Southern Conference record of 87 with a minimum of seven games left to play this year.

Additionally, Rand Smith went 5-for-7 with a triple, home run and four runs scored and Jerod Faggart capped a 3-for-4, three-run, five-RBI afternoon with a grand slam of his own in the eighth inning. Wes Hobson also homered and doubled, while David Towarnicky and Ryan Arrowood registered two doubles apiece for the Mountaineers.

Josh Dowdy turned in an efficient six innings of work on the mound, allowing only three hits and striking out six to move to 5-2 on the season.

The first of six pitchers for UNCG (17-27, 5-19 SoCon), Greg Smith was saddled with six runs (four earned) in 3.1 innings to fall to 3-8 on the campaign.

The clubs play the rubber match of their three-game weekend series on Sunday at 1 p.m. at UNCG Stadium. The contest is the final Southern Conference affair of the regular season for ASU.
