BOONE, N.C. - The Appalachian State women's basketball team will face some of the top teams in the state and will travel from coast to coast in the upcoming season, as announced by head coach Adrienne Shuler on Thursday. The team will open with a tough task, facing N.C. State in Raleigh, following the Wolfpack's appearance in the Sweet 16 last season. The Mountaineers will open at home against NCAA Division-I newcomer N.C. Central on November 16 at 7 p.m. The Lady Eagles won the CIAA Tournament in Division-II last season. ASU will host a total of 13 home dates this season, welcoming three additional non-conference opponents to the Holmes Center. Last year's Conference USA champion East Carolina will visit on November 28 at 7 p.m. Big South Conference runner-up Radford will visit the High Country on December 3 at 7 p.m., and Atlantic Sun finalist East Tennessee State will round out the home non-conference schedule on 7 p.m. on January 16. The team will prepare for SoCon action with trips to Boiling Springs, N.C. to face off for the first time with Gardner-Webb on November 20, and will meet up with Virginia Commonwealth in Richmond on November 25. The squad will keep warm over Winter Recess, as it travels to Orlando for the UCF Holiday Classic. ASU is set to play host Central Florida at 7:30 p.m. on December 19 and will match up with LaSalle at 5 p.m. on the following day. The Apps will then head west to the Maggie Dixon Surf N' Slam, hosted by San Diego. On December 28, the Mountaineers will face host San Diego at 9 p.m. The team will face either Texas or DePaul the following day to close out the tournament. The team will ring in 2008 with its Southern Conference home opener against defending champion Chattanooga on January 5, the first contest of the new year. Regular season co-champion Western Carolina will follow just two days later. From that point on, ASU will only play one non-conference game, the tilt with ETSU on January 16. The Southern Conference Tournament has been set March 6-9 in Charleston, S.C. and will be hosted by the Charleston Metro Sports Council. Season tickets for the 2007-08 campaign go on sale Monday.
