Eight-year NFL veteran and former Mountaineer Daniel Wilcox is in his first season as a coach at Appalachian. He assists with ASU's wide receivers and also serves as an assistant strength and conditioning coach while completing coursework for his bachelor's degree this semester.

Wilcox is fresh off of a successful NFL career as a tight end that included stints with the New York Jets (2001-02), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2002-03) and Baltimore Ravens (2004-08). He was a member of Tampa Bay's Super Bowl XXXVII championship squad and played 61 games in five seasons in Baltimore, including 17 starts. As a pro, he caught 76 passes for 576 yards and eight touchdowns, highlighted by averaging 22 receptions and 180 yards per year over his first three seasons with the Ravens.

In two seasons as a wide receiver at ASU (1999-2000), Wilcox hauled in 66 receptions for 1,028 yards and 10 touchdowns and earned all-America and all-conference recognition after catching 46 passes for 740 yards as a senior. His seven touchdown catches in 2000 are still tied for eighth in school history.

Off the field, Wilcox founded and operates the Daniel Wilcox Empowerment M.I.N.D.S. (Motivating and Inspiring Neighborhoods Determined to Succeed) Foundation. He returned to ASU in August 2010 to complete studies for a bachelor's degree in communications-broadcasting/electronic media and is scheduled to graduate in December 2010. As part of the coursework for his degree, he is a regular contributor to GoASU.com through online blogs and hosting weekly segments for Appalachian Football Weekly and GoASU TV.

Wilcox is married to Shauna Wilcox-Strickland and has two sons: Tristan (5) and Julian (infant).
