Raheem Martin joined Dustin Kerns' staff as the program's Director of Recruiting in October 2022. He enters his third season as an assistant coach after being promoted on Oct. 26, 2023.Â
The Greensboro College graduate oversees the program's recruiting efforts and assists the coaching staff with selecting and developing student-athletes. He most recently served as the coordinator of student-athlete development at the University of Arkansas after spending two years there as a graduate assistant.
Martin's second season as an assistant at App State in 2024-25 saw the Mountaineers post 17 wins, which included 10 wins in league play for the second consecutive season. App State hadn't posted at least 10 wins in league play in back-to-back seasons since the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons. Additionally, Martin was a part of another season in which the Mountaineers posted a .500 or better record. he has yet to finish a season at App State with a losing record.Â
A crucial part of one of the best developmental staffs in the Sun Belt, Martin helped turn CJ Huntley and Myles Tate into All-Sun Belt players in 2024-25. Both players finished in the top 10 in the league in scoring, while Tate posted the No. 1 mark in assists per game and Huntley was the sixth-best rebounder in the league. Martin has seen six players receive All-Sun Belt honors in his two seasons as an assistant coach.Â
In his first season as an assistant, the Mountaineers won a program-record 27 games, secured their first outright regular-season conference championship in program history, clinched an undefeated record at home for the first time in the Division I era and a claimed a berth in the NIT for the first time since 2006-07.Â
Martin plays an integral role in preparing App State for its opponents before each game. This translated to the team leading the conference in scoring defense for the third consecutive season and the fourth-best scoring offense in the Sun Belt, the highest placement since Kerns took over, in 2023-24.Â

Martin joins an organization that has grown and stood out in the Sun Belt Conference since Kerns took the reins prior to the 2019-20 season. App State captured the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Championship and has participated in three postseason tournament in the past six years.Â

While on the Arkansas coaching staff, he helped the Razorbacks to two straight Elite Eights. He had a successful playing career at Greensboro College and has built great relationships in this state. During his time at Arkansas, Martin worked with NBA lottery pick Moses Moody, All-American JD Notae and 2022 NBA draft pick Jaylin Williams. Prior to Arkansas, Martin spent one season as an assistant coach at Greensboro College (2019-20) and one season as an assistant coach at Richard Bland College (2017-18).Â
During his playing career, the four-year letterman was named USA South Defensive Player of the Year following the 2013-2014 season. He finished his career with 85 blocks, which ranks third on the Pride's all-time list, and ranked ninth in career steals with 116.Â
A native of Mocksville, N.C., Martin returns to North Carolina to continue his career at App State. He is the brother of twins Cody and Caleb Martin, who played for Eric Musselman at Nevada and play for the Charlotte Hornets and Philadelphia 76ers, respectively.
