Carlos Dixon is in his first season as director of basketball operations at Appalachian State.
Dixon comes to the High Country from Queens University in Charlotte, where he served as an assistant coach. With the Royals, Dixon played a role in skill development, scouting reports, academics and recruiting in four states.
In his two seasons at Queens, the Royals posted a combined 62-8 record. In 2016-17, Queens won the South Atlantic Conference regular season and tournament title, while advancing to the Sweet 16. In the 2017-18 season, the Royals posted their best start in school history (16-0), reached the No. 1 ranking in the country during the season and made an appearance in the Final Four.
Dixon was a four-year standout at Virginia Tech, where he was named team captain and team MVP during his junior and senior seasons. He currently sits 22nd in Virginia Tech history with 1,348 points and ranks 10th in program history in steals with 183. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelor of science in housing, interior design and resource management in 2004.

After graduating from Virginia Tech, Dixon played overseas for 11 years in seven different countries. His career has included stops in China, France, South Korea, Argentina, Japan, Bahrain and the Dominican Republic. He earned All-League honors in Japan in 2011 and 2015 and won a league title with Dongbu Promy in South Korea in 2008.
