Biography

2014: Enjoyed a breakout campaign as a junior, leading Appalachian State in batting average (.343), on-base percentage (.425), runs (41), hits (69), doubles (16), total bases (108) and walks (26) en route to first-team all-Southern Conference recognition … finished seventh in the SoCon in hitting and tied for sixth in doubles … ranked among the SoCon’s top 10 with a .410 batting average (3rd) 43 hits (t-2nd), 26 runs (t-3rd), nine doubles (t-3rd), 26 RBI (t-7th), 16 walks (t-7th), a .492 on-base percentage (3rd), a .600 slugging percentage (9th) and 63 total bases (5th) in conference play … appeared in 54 of Appalachian State’s 55 games and made 53 starts (32 at second base and 21 at third base) … had a relatively slow start to the season and was hitting just .204 through March 15 and .253 through April 1 … hit first home run of the season in series finale at Arkansas (Feb. 16) … notched early-season two-hit efforts against North Carolina (Feb. 25) and Notre Dame (March 11) … began to break out of slump at Georgia Southern (March 21-23), recording five hits in three games … highlighted big series at Georgia Southern by going 2-for-3 with a walk, home run, three RBI and two runs scored in finale … followed that up by going 2-for-3 with a walk, home run and three RBI in series opener against UNCG (March 28) … had two RBI and two runs scored the next day against UNCG … beginning with 3-for-4 performance that included two doubles and a home run against ETSU on April 2, hit .397 with 14 doubles, four home runs and 21 RBI over the final 30 games of the season … hit safely in 26 of the final 30 games, including 18 multi-hit efforts … reached base safely in final 30 games of the campaign … had hitting streaks of 11 and 10 games over final 30 contests … set a career high with four hits and matched season and career highs with four RBI in second game of three-game series against The Citadel (April 12) …  went 2-for-4 with a double in all three games of series at Elon (April 18-20) … went 7-for-13 with three doubles and five RBI in three-game set against Davidson (April 25-27) … opened Davidson series by going 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and three runs scored and closed the series by going 3-for-5 with two doubles, home run and a season/career-high-tying four RBI … went 7-for-14 with two doubles and four RBI during three-game series at Western Carolina (May 2-4) … had multiple hits in all three games against WCU, highlighted by going 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI in second game of series … hit safely in all three games and scored five runs in series at Samford (May 9-11) … went 2-for-5 in come-from-behind win at ETSU (May 13) … named to 2014 all-SoCon Tournament team after hitting .462 (6-for-13) with a home run and two doubles in three postseason games … hit game-winning home run off right-field foul pole in 11th inning of tournament-opening 3-2 victory over eventual champion Georgia Southern (May 21) … doubled in each of final two games of the campaign (May 22 vs. Furman and May 23 vs. Georgia Southern) … finished season with a team-high 23 multi-hit games.

2013: Appeared in 18 games, all in the second half of the season ... made 12 starts (11 in left field and one at designated hitter) ... was one of Appalachian State’s most productive hitters down the stretch, hitting .292 for the season and .357 in the month of May ... did not make first appearance of the season until April 12 at UNCG, when he started at designated hitter and went 1-for-4 ... became a semi-regular fixture in the starting lineup at the end of April and started in left field 11 times in the final 18 games of the season ... managed just one hit and one RBI in his first five games as a starter ... came off the bench in the second game of doubleheader at Gonzaga (May 11) and hit a seventh-inning grand slam — the first home run of his career — that proved to be the difference in Appalachian State’s 6-2 victory ... started in the series finale at Gonzaga (May 12) and went 2-for-3 with two walks, three RBI and a career-best three runs scored ... started all four games of the SoCon Tournament and collected multiple hits in three of the four contests ... went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI in tournament opener vs. The Citadel (May 22) ... went 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored in 15-4 win over Western Carolina (May 24) that eliminated regular-season champion WCU from the tournament and ended the Catamounts’ hopes for an NCAA Tournament bid ... went 3-for-5 with an RBI in season-ending loss to The Citadel (May 25) ... hit .412 (7-for-17)  with four RBI in four SoCon Tournament games.

2012: Appeared in 11 games as a reserve as a true freshman ... was productive in limited opportunities, going 3-for-6 with two RBI ... went 1-for-2 with an RBI single in collegiate debut versus Rider (March 3) ... turned in one of the highlights of Appalachian State’s historic season when he entered the game as a pinch-runner versus Davidson (March 11) and wound up going 2-for-2 at the plate, including a walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning of a 5-4 triumph.

High School: Hit .551 with eight doubles, eight home runs, 27 RBI, 41 runs scored and .667 on-base percentage as a senior … hit .422 with six home runs and 33 stolen bases as a junior … named first-team all-Broward County as a senior and honorable-mention all-county in the prep baseball hotbed as a sophomore and junior … tabbed as the 2011 district Player of the Year … owns 10 school records (single-season and career batting average, single-season and career runs, career total bases, career pitching appearances and single-season and career assists) … coached by his father, Glen Pierson.
