Biography

2007: After a successful freshman season splitting time between a starting and closing role, made the full-time switch to the bullpen as a sophomore ... responded by leading ASU with 10 wins (good for third in the SoCon) and six saves (sixth in the SoCon) ... 10 wins tied for the second-most in school history and most since Pete Hardee won a school-record 12 in 1984 ... six saves are tied for third all-time at ASU ... 5.09 ERA was tops among ASU pitchers with at least 25 IP ... just two years into his career, moved into sixth and a tie for third in program history, respectively, with 17 career wins and eight career saves ... was in starting rotation for the first four weekends of the season ... struck out season-best nine in just five innings of work to earn win over Coppin State in first start of campaign (Feb. 17) ... fanned eight in six innings against Dayton (March 3) to move to 2-1 on the season ... a week later, scattered seven hits and two runs while striking out seven over season-high eight innings to up record to 3-1 with a win over Fairleigh Dickinson (March 11) ... in between, earned first save of the season by allowing just one hit over final two innings of 10-9 win at Wake Forest (Feb. 20) ... moved to closer on a full-time basis midway through March and went 7-4 with six saves in that role ... earned a win out of the ?pen by surrendering just one earned run over five innings of work in 9-8 win against Elon (March 17) ... pitched in all three games of series sweep versus Wofford, combining to allow just three hits and striking out four in 5.1 innings of work en route to two saves and a win ... fanned two in a scoreless inning to record fourth save of the season in a 6-5 victory at East Tennessee State (March 27) ... gave up just one run over final 3.1 innings to collect another win at Furman (April 1) ... three days later, made ninth-inning lead stand up to notch season’s sixth save in an 8-7 triumph at UNC Asheville (April 4) ... despite a shaky April, managed to collect wins against The Citadel (April 13) and UNC Asheville (April 24) ... helped ASU salvage a win at archrival Western Carolina (May 6) by closing out a 6-3 victory with 2.1 innings of one-hit relief, giving him his sixth and final save of the year ... got ninth win of the season by pitching final two innings of ASU’s come-from-behind victory at UNC Greensboro (May 18) ... made perhaps his most impressive showing of the season in thrilling 11-10 win over College of Charleston in SoCon Tournament (May 24) ... allowed just two hits ? one on an infield single ? over his final four innings on the mound to allow ASU to come back from a 10-5 deficit and end top-seeded C of C’s season.

2006: Established himself as staff ace as a true freshman ... seven wins were the most by an ASU pitcher since John Meadows won seven in 1990 ... set school record with 96.1 innings pitched ... led Mountaineers in wins (7), ERA (4.11), shutouts (1), innings pitched (96.1) and opponents’ batting average (.260) ... also ranked among team leaders with one complete game (t-1st), two saves (t-2nd) and 53 strikeouts (3rd) ... pitched at least six innings in 11-of-13 starts ... one of the starts that he didn’t go six innings was season opener versus Buffalo (Feb. 19 in his hometown of Kannapolis), when he was limited to five innings of work and allowed no earned runs on just four hits and struck out four for first-career victory ... struck out season high-tying five and allowed just one earned run on two hits in six innings to move to 2-0 with win over Army (Feb. 25) ... upped record to 3-0 with five-hit, seven-inning shutout gem in 7-0 win over Canisius (March 11) ... suffered back-to-back tough-luck losses despite allowing just three total runs in defeats to N.C. A&T (March 15) and College of Charleston (March 19) ... allowed just one run on six hits in seven innings at Elon (March 26), but received no decision when bullpen squandered seven-run ninth-inning lead ... earned first-career save by closing 4-3 win over Western Carolina (April 1) with perfect ninth inning ... collected second save a week later with scoreless ninth versus UNC Greensboro (April 8) ... allowed just one hit in three innings out of the bullpen to earn fourth win versus East Tennessee State (April 30) ... not only registered fifth win with 1.2 innings of one hit relief versus The Citadel (April 6), but also laid down a sacrifice bunt that helped propel ASU to extra-inning triumph ... tossed season-high 8.1 innings at Georgia Southern (May 14) for sixth win of season ... picked up final victory of season with 2.1 innings of three-hit relief versus Davidson (May 19) ... didn’t receive decision in 5-4 win over Davidson in SoCon Tournament opener (May 23).

High School: Was a three-sport standout at A.L. Brown H.S., excelling in baseball, football and basketball ... ranked among North Carolina’s top 10 with a .539 batting average at the plate and 98 strikeouts at the mound en route to all-state and conference player-of-the-year accolades as a senior ... named all-conference following junior and senior seasons ... coached by Empsy Thompson ... all-around athlete was also an all-state kicker on the gridiron and a 1,000-point scorer and three-time all-conference performer on the hardwood ... earned 12 varsity letters (four in baseball, three each in football and basketball, two in soccer).
