2016: Saw action on the mound in seven games, starting one as a junior … struck out eight batters in a scoreless 4.0 innings during his lone start of the season against Quinnipiac (Feb. 28) … gave up no more than one run in four of his seven appearances … struck out three batters against eventual NCAA College State Regional participant Wake Forest … finished the season with an 8.74 ERA over 11.1 innings pitched.

2015: Appeared in 12 games with four starts as a sophomore … came out of the bullpen for first six appearances of the season and allowed only one earned run over 3.2 innings … followed with four-straight starts and went 0-2 with a 15.68 ERA before returning to the bullpen to allow just one run in two relief appearances to close out the campaign … finished the season with a 3.18 ERA as a reliever.

2014: Served as Appalachian State’s primary mid-week starting pitcher for much of his true-freshman campaign … made 16 appearances, including seven starts … posted a 1-2 record and 6.84 ERA … impressed out of the bullpen early in the season with three-straight scoreless relief appearances against Arkansas (2 IP, 2 H on Feb. 14), Arkansas again (0.2 IP, 0 H) and NC State (1.2 IP, 0 H) … allowed first earned run of the season in 2.0 innings of relief at North Carolina (Feb. 25) … made first-career start against Campbell (March 5) but did not figure in the decision after allowing three runs and striking out five over five innings … was spectacular in his next start at Clemson (March 12), limiting the high-powered Tigers to two runs on four hits over eight innings but suffered the tough-luck 2-1 complete-game loss to fall to 0-1 on the season … two starts later, held Wake Forest to one run on two hits while striking out a season-high eight over just 6.1 innings but did not figure in the decision in a 4-2 App State defeat … one week later, twirled a two-hit shutout gem in an 11-0 win at Virginia Tech (April 22) to even his record at 1-1 … moved into the weekend rotation for conference starts at Western Carolina (May 2) and Samford (May 9) but surrendered six earned runs in 3.0 innings at WCU (no decision) and 10 earned runs in 2.1 innings at SU (loss) … closed the season by striking out three in 1.1 innings of relief against Furman (May 16).

High School: Despite playing just two seasons of varsity baseball as a prep, Mason was ranked as the 134th-best player in the baseball-rich state of Texas and one of the nation’s top 1,000 players by Perfect Game USA ... earned honorable-mention all-region recognition as a senior ... part of the only senior class in McNeil H.S. history to lead team to back-to-back appearances in the Texas Class 5A playoffs ... advanced to 5A regional semifinals in 2012, good for the deepest playoff run in school history ... two-time academic all-region honoree ... coached by Andrew Dawson ... posted a 2-0 record, 0.84 ERA and four saves while pitching for the Action Baseball Club (coached by Keith Jackson) in summer of 2013.
