Biography

2016: Appeared in 14 games as a reliever for the Mountaineers … finished the season at 19.0 innings pitched and a 4.26 ERA – good for third among relievers on the team … fourth among relievers with 19 punchouts … struck out four guys three times: against eventual NCAA College State Regional participant Wake Forest (April 19), eventual Sun Belt Conference champion and NCAA Regional participant UL Lafayette (May 6) and UT Arlington (May 13) … allowed just three earned runs over his last seven games … overall, gave up runs in just six of his 14 appearances … finished the year 1-1, getting the win against NC A&T (May 3) where he struck out two battles in a scoreless inning.

2015: Southpaw appeared in 25 games (two starts, 23 out of the bullpen) as a sophomore … 25 appearances were second most on the team and 23 relief appearances were tied for second most on the club … 41.2 of his 46.2 total innings pitched came in relief … 41.2 innings as a reliever were a team-high … made start in second game of the season and came away with win after tossing three scoreless innings in planned split start against Villanova (Feb. 14) … made only other start of the season the following week against Canisius (Feb. 22) and was plagued by five unearned runs in just two innings of 10-3 loss … moved exclusively to the bullpen for the rest of the season … did not allow any earned runs in five of his first six relief appearances … went on to surrender earned runs in just nine of his 23 outings out of the bullpen and allowed one earned run or less 18 times in 23 relief stints … very good 4.24 ERA would have been even more impressive if not for allowing five runs against UL Monroe (March 22) and Troy (April 5) … rebounded from subpar performance against ULM by striking out seven and allowing just two hits in 3.1 scoreless innings against Wake Forest (March 25) … struck out four in 2.1 scoreless innings at Western Carolina (April 21).

2014: Worked 45.1 innings over 20 outings as a true freshman, including 41.0 IP in 19 appearances out of the bullpen (good for the second-most relief innings on the team) … first 19 appearances of the season were all as a reliever … quickly established himself as one of the bullpen’s top performers, allowing earned runs in just two of his first eight appearances … best performance came at North Carolina (Feb. 25), when he limited the Tar Heels to just one baserunner (on a walk) over four scoreless, hitless innings … struck out four in the impressive performance at UNC … owned a 1.17 ERA after eight appearances … struggled down the stretch, surrendering earned runs in 11 of his final 14 outings of the season … worked a scoreless inning at South Carolina (April 1) … set season highs for strikeouts (7) and innings pitched (6.0) in relief against The Citadel (April 11) … tossed two perfect innings during series finale against Davidson (April 27) … picked up first-career win in opener of final series of the regular season against Furman (May 16) after allowing just two runs over 4.1 innings of relief … made first-career start in third game of SoCon Tournament versus Georgia Southern (May 23) … limited eventual tournament champion to just two runs over 4.1 innings but suffered the tough-luck 2-1 loss.

High School: Two-time all-metro honoree ... went 9-3 with a 2.46 ERA, 69 strikeouts in 68.1 IP and four complete games as a senior ... compiled an 8-3 record as a junior ... coached by Craig Shimmel ... set a Moline Post 246 all-time record with 22 career victories in American Legion ball ... helped lead Post 246 (coach James Zacherwicz) to 2012 American Legion World Series ... boasted a combined 63-6 record between his high-school and summer-ball careers ... also starred in golf (three-time all-metro selection) and swimming and was named the winner of the John Anders Award, given to Moline’s three-sport Athlete of the Year ... joins high-school teammate Matt Brill as the first Illinois products to wear the Black and Gold in a decade (Joe Norton - 2001-04).
