Miller Mashes Record-Tying Three Homers in Run-Rule Win Over Eagles

BOONE, N.C. – App State Baseball junior Kameron Miller entered the weekend series against Georgia Southern having homered in three straight games. On Friday night, he homered three times in the first four innings. matching the program's single-game record while slugging the Mountaineers to a 16-3 victory over the Eagles in seven innings at Smith Stadium.

App State (24-16, 11-8) has now won five games in a row and 10 of its last 12 after scoring runs in each of the first five innings. Nick DiRito threw a seven-inning complete game to earn the victory.

Miller's three-homer game (on his first three swings of the night) came two years after Banks Tolley blasted three home runs against Georgia Southern, including a walk-off blast, to clinch a top-six seed in the Sun Belt tournament. Andre Crawford delivered the only other three-homer game in program history, doing so against Marshall in 1986.

Miller's first home run capped a three-run first inning to set the tone for the night. It was a 410-foot blast just right of the batter's eye to bring home Ethan Puig, who drove home Steven Smith with an RBI single earlier in the frame.

Miller led off the third inning with his second home run of the night, a 427-foot shot that ignited a four-run inning. His third home run was a 458-foot tape measure blast that jumpstarted another four-run inning in the fourth.

Miller was intentionally walked in the fifth inning and singled to cap a four-hit night in the sixth before receiving a standing ovation when he was lifted for a pinch-runner.

Joseph Zamora added three hits and drove in three , eaching base four times for an App State squad that finished the night with 18 hits.

DiRito needed just 91 pitches to complete seven innings and earn his fourth win of the season. The reigning Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week struck out eight for the second straight start and retired the final seven batters he faced.

Georgia Southern (12-29, 5-14) hit back-to-back home runs in the second inning but tallied just one run on four hits the remainder of the game.

The Mountaineers will go for their fourth straight series win on Saturday at 3 p.m.
