Tennis Hosts Davidson, VCU in Late-Week Matchups

BOONE, N.C. – The App State tennis team returns to the High Country to take on Davidson on Thursday at 1 p.m., followed by an interstate matchup against VCU on Friday at 11 a.m. For the first time this season, the matches will be played outdoors at the App State Tennis Courts at the Appalachian 105 Complex.

Last Time Out
The Mountaineers (4-6) split two matches in Texas, falling to Tarleton State 4-3 before snapping a four-match losing streak with a win over UT Arlington. Ruby Broadbent clinched the match for the Mountaineers, securing the fourth point to seal the victory. Broadbent fought back after dropping her first set to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Scouting the Mountaineers
Currently ranked eighth in the nation, Savannah Dada-Mascoll leads the Mountaineers with an 8-1 record at the No. 1 spot. Her only loss came in the season opener against then-No. 23 Ange Oby Kajuru (now ranked No. 7). Since that loss, Dada-Mascoll has dropped only two sets, the most recent coming in the first set against UT Arlington.

Dada-Mascoll is currently on an eight-match winning streak. She is a two-time Sun Belt Women's Tennis Player of the Week this season and also shared Sun Belt Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week honors with Taya Powell.

Ten matches into the season, Sreenidhi Balaji, Broadbent, and Allegra Hodson are all .500 or better in singles play, with Broadbent on a two-match winning streak. Despite recent singles skids for Naledi Manyube and Hodson, both hold 5-4 doubles records and are on multi-match winning streaks.

Third-year head coach Hannah Fetters returns six players from last year's roster: Dada-Mascoll, Broadbent, Alexi Cleveland, Manyube, Powell, and Isabela Romanichen. The squad also welcomed newcomers Balaji and Hodson.

Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson (5-2) is coming off a 13-8 season in 2025, which ended with a second-round loss to UMass in the A10 Tournament. The Wildcats return nine players from last year's squad and added one freshman for the 2026 season. Davidson enters Thursday following a 4-0 road loss to Elon on Sunday. The Mountaineers last faced the Wildcats in the 2024 regular-season opener, falling 4-2.

Davidson is led by head coach Susanne Depka, who is in her ninth season at the helm.

Scouting the Rams
VCU (6-5) finished the 2025 season with a 14-11 overall record, winning the A10 Tournament before falling to UNC in the first round of the NCAA Championships. The Rams return five players and added two freshmen and one transfer. VCU enters Friday's matchup following a 4-3 road loss to James Madison. The Mountaineers last faced the Rams in the 2025 season opener, winning 5-2 in Richmond, Virginia.

The Rams are led by second-year head coach Rifa Kahfiani.

Up Next
The Mountaineers will travel to Florida to take on Lipscomb on March 13 at 3 p.m., followed by a matchup against North Florida on March 15 at 10 a.m.
