BOONE, N.C. - The App State women's track and field team will split this week for the Doc Hale VT Meet in Blacksburg, Va. and Camel City Sprints and Distance meets in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Friday's action will start at 10:30 a.m. at the Doc Hale VT Meet, while the Camel City Sprints meet is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start. On Saturday, the Camel City Distance meet is slated for a 9:30 a.m. start, while action at the Doc Hale VT Meet will resume at 10:30 a.m.
Meet Rewind
At Virginia Tech's Hokie Invitational on Jan. 23-24, the Mountaineers reset to women's 300-meter and 1,000-meter program records and tallied 19 top five finishes. Junior
Jayla Adams stopped the clock at 38.42 to break the App State women's 300-meter record, which was originally set at 38.50 in 2013. She finished second overall and was followed by senior
Damyja Alejandro-Ortiz (third, 38.56, PR), junior
Nicole Wells (fourth, 39.23), senior
Daye Talley (fifth, 39.25, PR), and junior
Kendall Johnson (sixth, 39.35, PR).
With a time of 2:52.62, freshman
Josie Jackson broke the program's 1,000-meter record, which previously stood at 2:52.76. She placed fourth overall and was followed by sophomore
Savannah Moore, who placed fifth with a personal best of 2:55.08. Jackson also placed first in the women's 800 meters with a personal best of 2:13.24. Senior
Addison Ollendick-Smith took second in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:15.28.
The Mountaineers registered second-place finishes in the women's 200 meters (Adams, 24.57), women's 400 meters (sophomore
Ja'Naya Linder, 56.83), women's high jump (freshman
Ashlynn Wimberly, 1.66m (5' 5.25")), and the seeded section of the women's pole vault (sophomore
Lilly Nichols, 4.17m (13' 8.25")). The 4x400-meter relay squad of Wells, Adams, Talley, and Alejandro-Ortiz also registered a second-place finish with a time of 3:44.92.
Freshman
Alana Braxton landed third in the women's long jump (5.92m (19' 5.25")) and the women's triple jump (12.24m (40' 2")).
In the Rankings
Nichols leads the Sun Belt, checks in at eighth in the NCAA Southeast Region, and ranks 37th nationally in the women's pole vault. Seniors
Ava Studney and
Caroline Fowlkes join Nichols in the Sun Belt's top five for the women's pole vault. The women's 4x400-meter relay squad of Wells, Adams, Talley, and Alejandro-Ortiz remains first in the conference and rounds out the region's top 10.
In the Sun Belt standings, Johnson checks in at second in the women's 60 meters, while Alejandro-Ortiz ranks second in the women's 400 meters and third in the women's 200 meters. Jackson ranks in at third in the conference in the 800 meters. The pair of Wimberly and Braxton stand among the league's top five and the region's top 20 in the women's triple jump. Additionally, Braxton rounds out the Sun Belt's top five and the region's top 20 in the women's long jump.

App State will close the indoor regular season with an appearance at the VMI Winter Classic in Lexington, Va. on Feb. 14.
