Mountaineers Travel to Texas for Matchups with Tarleton State, UT Arlington

BOONE, N.C. – The App State tennis team travels to Texas this weekend for a Friday tilt against Tarleton State, followed by a Sunday matchup with UT Arlington.

First serve Friday is scheduled for 2 p.m., while Sunday's match is set to begin at 11 a.m.

Last Time Out
The Mountaineers (3-5) have dropped three straight matches, most recently falling 4-2 on the road against Wake Forest. App State clinched the doubles point, and despite a win from Savannah Dada-Mascoll at No. 1, Wake Forest won four singles matches on courts 2-5 to seal the victory.

Scouting the Mountaineers
App State opened the 2026 season following a historic fall campaign by senior Dada-Mascoll, who is currently ranked No. 9 nationally. Dada-Mascoll defeated nine ranked opponents, including then-No. 1 DJ Bennett, en route to becoming an NCAA singles quarterfinalist and earning All-American honors. She was recently named Sun Belt Women's Tennis Player of the Week following her win over Virginia Tech All-American Özlem Uslu.

Eight matches into the season, Dada-Mascoll leads the Mountaineers with a 6-1 singles record, all at the No. 1 position. Allegra Hodson and Naledi Manyube are also above .500 in singles play, holding 5-3 and 4-3 records, respectively.

Third-year head coach Hannah Fetters returns six players from last year's roster: Dada-Mascoll, Ruby Broadbent, Alexi Cleveland, Manyube, Taya Powell and Isabela Romanichen. The squad also welcomed newcomers Sreenidhi Balaji and Hodson.

Scouting the Texans
Tarleton State (6-3) is coming off a 13-8 season in 2025, which ended with a first-round loss in the WAC Tournament to UT Arlington. The Texans return six players from last year's squad and added three freshmen this season. They most recently earned a 4-0 win over Northwestern State. This marks the first spring matchup between the Mountaineers and the Texans.

Tarleton State is led by head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron, who is in her seventh season.

Scouting the Mavericks
UT Arlington (2-6) finished the 2025 season with a 9-10 record. The Mavericks return no players from last year's squad, adding seven newcomers for the 2026 season. UT Arlington is coming off a 4-0 loss to North Texas, its third straight defeat. This is the third matchup and the first in Arlington, Texas, for the Mountaineers and the Mavericks. The programs have split their previous two meetings, with App State winning the first in 2019.

The Mavericks are led by head coach Diego Benitez, who is in his 10th year.

Up Next
The Mountaineers return to the High Country to host Davidson on Thursday. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. at the App State Tennis Courts at the Appalachian 105 Complex, weather permitting.
