BOONE, N.C. - The App State women's track and field team is headed to Blacksburg, Va. for Virginia Tech's Hokie Invitational this Friday and Saturday. Field events will start at 3:30 p.m. and track events will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday. Action continues on Saturday with field events starting at 10 a.m. and track events scheduled for 11 a.m.
Meet Rewind
At the VMI Team Challenge, App State tallied nine first-place finishes and took first in the team standings with 230 points. A new 60-meter program record punctuated the day as junior
Kendall Johnson stopped the clock at 7.39 for a personal best in the women's 60-meter prelims. She had previously set the school record at 7.42 at the 2025 Sun Belt Indoor Championships. In Saturday's women's 60-meter final, Johnson garnered gold with a time of 7.43.
The Mountaineers took the top three spots in the women's mile and the women's 200 meters, as well as the top five spots in the women's 400 meters. Sophomore
Savannah Moore placed first in the mile (5:03.41), followed by freshmen
Josie Jackson (5:07.22) and
Tessa Massa (5:08.61). Senior
Damyja Alejandro-Ortiz placed first in the women's 200 meters (24.10) and in the women's 400 meters (55.43, PR). Her finishes elevated her to second all-time in the 200 meters and fifth all-time in the 400 meters. Johnson and junior
Nicole Wells followed Alejandro-Ortiz in the women's 200 meters to place second (24.16, PR) and third (24.58), respectively. In the women's 400 meters, junior
Jayla Adams finished second (55.64), Wells took third (56.18), senior
Daye Talley placed fourth (57.26), and sophomore
Ja'Naya Linder rounded out the top five (57.95). The Mountaineers also saw a first-place finish on the track from junior
Mary Biagini, who led the pack in the women's 3,000 meters with a personal best of 10:19.77.
Freshman
Ashlynn Wimberly landed first in the women's high jump with a clearance of 1.68m (5' 6"), which moved her to 10th in the App State All-time list. Senior
Ava Studney and freshman
Alana Braxton registered first-place finishes in the women's pole vault (3.75m (12' 3.5")) and women's triple jump (12.24m (40' 2")), respectively. With a toss of 12.87m (42' 2.75"), sophomore
Harlee Fonville finished first in the women's shot put.
In the Rankings
Heading into this weekend's competition, nine Mountaineers rank among the SBC's top-three in eight events and lead the league in four events. Alejandro-Ortiz and Johnson round out the NCAA's top 50 in the women's 200 meters and women's 60 meters, respectively. Alejandro-Ortiz leads the SBC and rounds out the NCAA Southeast Region's top five in the women's 400 meters in addition to standing third in the league and 11th regionally in the 200 meters. Johnson checks in at second in the conference and 10th in the region in the women's 60 meters.
Studney remains the Sun Belt's leader in the pole vault and rounds out the region's top-10 in the event, while Wimberly holds steady as the league's top triple jumper and ranks eighth in the region. The women's 4x400-meter relay squad of Wells, Alejandro-Ortiz, Talley, and Adams continue to lead the SBC.

The Mountaineers will return to Blacksburg, Va. for the Doc Hale VT Meet on Feb. 6-7.
