#AppStateNFL: Week 3 Recap

BOONE, N.C. — App State Football currently has 14 football alums on NFL rosters, and five of them were part of Monday Night Football.

In addition to Akeem Davis-Gaither's appearance with the Cincinnati Bengals, the Buffalo-Jacksonville game concluded with a group photo involving Jaguars offensive lineman Cooper Hodges posing alongside Buffalo's Sam Martin, Jalen Virgil and Darrynton Evans.

Here's a Week 3 rundown on App State alums in the NFL:

AKEEM DAVIS-GAITHER | LB | Cincinnati Bengals
DARRYNTON EVANS | RB | Buffalo Bills (IR)

SAM MARTIN | P/KO | Buffalo Bills
RYAN NEUZIL | OL | Atlanta Falcons
JALEN VIRGIL | WR | Buffalo Bills (PS)
BUCKY WILLIAMS | OL | Los Angeles Chargers (IR)

AKEEM DAVIS-GAITHER | LB | Cincinnati Bengals
Appearing at midfield for the pregame coin toss as a captain, Davis-Gaither made three tackles during his 11 defensive snaps and played 77 percent of the special teams snaps in a 38-33 loss to Washington.

SAM MARTIN | P/KO | Buffalo Bills
Martin had a 49-yard punt fair caught at the 17-yard line on his only attempt in Buffalo's 47-10 victory against Jacksonville. Evans is currently on the Bills' reserve/injured list, while Virgil is a member of the practice squad.

COOPER HODGES | OL | Jacksonville Jaguars
Hodges was on the field for an offensive play for the first time in his career against the Bills. He also blocked on the Jaguars' two scoring kicks.

Hodges spent his entire rookie season in 2023 on injured reserve following a preseason injury and took the field on special teams in the first two games of this season.

Hodges has also been an active volunteer in the Jacksonville community:

KENDALL LAMM | OL | Miami Dolphins
Lamm appeared on the field for 41 offensive plays — or two-thirds of the offensive snaps — while taking snaps at both tackle spots in Miami's 24-3 loss to Seattle. According to PFF, he had the fourth-best pass-blocking grade among NFL tackles in Week 3.

RYAN NEUZIL | OL | Atlanta Falcons
Neuzil appeared for 42 offensive plays at center — or 69 percent of the offensive snaps — in Atlanta's 22-17 loss to Kansas City on Sunday Night Football.

Neuzil replaced Drew Dalman, who left the game with an ankle issue and has been placed on injured reserve.

"I thought Ryan did a phenomenal job at center," Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins told reporters. "There are so many moving parts with the center as far as protection calls, pistol snaps, gun snaps, under center snaps, handling cadence. I thought Ryan did a phenomenal job stepping in and handling a lot."

NICK HAMPTON | OLB | Los Angeles Rams
Hampton appeared on 56 percent of the special teams snaps and made one tackle in a 27-24 win against San Francisco.

TYREK FUNDERBURK | CB | Tampa Bay Bucs
An undrafted rookie who made the 53-man roster, Funderburk again made a special teams appearance, seeing the field for two plays in a 26-7 loss to Denver.

D'MARCO JACKSON | LB | New Orleans Saints
Jackson, who has been sidelined by a calf injury, was inactive for the Saints' loss to Philadelphia.
