BOONE, N.C. – The Mountaineers shut out Georgetown 3-0 on Sunday, completing an undefeated home opening weekend.
App State (2-0) led for the entire game, scoring their first goal in the second period. The Mountaineers would go on to score in the second and third periods, scoring two goals within two minutes of game time.

Claire Grenis was stellar in the cage for the Mountaineers, as she recorded four saves in the contest while holding the Hoyas (0-1) scoreless throughout the entirety of the game.
How it Happened
1st: The first period ended scoreless for both teams as the Mountaineers would garner much of the possession, putting pressure on the Hoya defense. The Mountaineers would put up eight shots in the first period, five being on target.
2nd: App State would turn up the intensity in the second, getting off 18 shots in the period.
Charlotte Bosma, off a pass from
Grace Ball, would break the scoreless draw in the second. In less than two minutes,
Kassie Paul would score her first goal of the season, giving the Mountaineers a two-goal lead in the second. The Mountaineers ended the half with 26 shots in comparison to the Hoyas' two. The Mountaineers' offensive pressure would also earn them eight corners in the second period, ending the half with nine total.
3rd: It would be more of the same for the Mountaineers as the defense would hold the Hoyas to only one shot in the third while also drawing eight attacking penalty corners.
Henriette Stegen found the back of the cage for the first time this season as the Mountaineers got off 10 shots in the third, six being on goal.
4th: The Mountaineer defense held firm, allowing two shots off in the final period. App State would finish the game with 42 shots with 24 being on goal. The Mountaineer defense held the Hoyas to five total shots for the game, four being saved by Grenis.
