BOONE, N.C. — App State's
Kanye Roberts has been named to the watch list for the Doak Walker Award, which is presented annually to the nation's best college running back.
Last year, Roberts was App State's top rusher five times in the last nine games of a 696-yard season that included seven rushing touchdowns.
A redshirt sophomore from Wallace, N.C., he appeared in all 14 games and started four at running back, including the final three. He averaged 5.7 yards per carry on the season and had three different 109-yard games — against ODU, Southern Miss and Georgia Southern — before posting a two-touchdown performance against Troy in the Sun Belt title game.
The Mountaineers were 3-4 overall and trailing 38-35 against Southern Miss before Roberts scored on a 61-yard touchdown run with 6:37 left in a 48-38 win that started a five-game winning streak to close the regular season.
