BOONE, N.C. - The App State women's basketball team is set to host ULM at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday for National Girls & Women in Sports Day.
Prior to tipoff, the Holmes Center concourse Fan Zone will be open from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Various yard games will be set up and fans will have the opportunity to meet various App State women's teams.
Senior
Faith Alston will be honored with a game ball prior to tipoff for hitting her 1,000th collegiate career point. Alston, who reached the milestone on Jan. 18 against Georgia Southern, is the 28th Mountaineer in program history to hit 1,000 points at App State. With eight games remaining in the regular season, the Centerville, Va. native currently has 1,055 career points.
Last Time Out
App State defeated Coastal Carolina, 80-70, in Conway, S.C. on Feb. 3, completing the season sweep against the Chanticleers. The Mountaineers matched the program record for made 3-pointers in a game, knocking down 15, while holding CCU to five. Alston marked her 15th game as the Mountaineers' top scorer, netting 18 points. Taylor Lewis and sophomore
Alexis Black combined for nine of the Black and Gold's treys. Lewis also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. Junior
Emily Carver dished out a team-high six assists, while netting 13 points.
Ranked Mountaineers
For the week of Jan 29 to Feb. 4, Carver led the league and ranked 11th in the NCAA for her assists-to-turnover ratio, totaling seven assists to one turnover on the week. Black ranked second, Lewis ranked third, and Carver ranked fifth in the league for 3-point percentage. Lewis also ranked fifth in the league for made 3-pointers and 3-pointers per game. App State led the league and ranked 15th nationally for 3-point percentage. The Mountaineers tied Marshall for first in the SBC for made 3-pointers per game. App State also checked in at second in the league for field goal percentage and defensive rebounds per game.
In conference-only play, Alston stands fourth in SBC in the scoring category and fifth in the assists category. App State rounds out the top-five for steals made in league action.
For the season as a whole, sophomore
Rylan Moffitt checks in at fourth for rebounding, averaging 8.2 per contest. Alston ranks fourth in the league for assists, averaging 4.5 per contest and rounds out the top-five for scoring, averaging 18.5 points per game.
Last Time Against ULM
App State closed out the 2022-23 regular season with a 77-63 victory over the Warhawks on Feb. 24, 2023. Five Mountaineers netted double-figures, led by
Janay Sanders, who scored 15 points.
Zada Porter netted 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for her first career double-double. Porter also matched with Alston in the assists category, each dishing out four. App State drained nine treys compared to ULM's three. The Black and Gold scored 40 points off the bench compared to ULM's six. The Mountaineers also held ULM to a mere seven points in the second quarter.
Scouting ULM
ULM is 15-7 on the season and 7-4 in conference action. The Warhawks enter Wednesday's contest after a pair of home losses against Troy and Louisiana. The pair of losses snapped ULM's six-game Sun Belt win-streak that had spanned from Jan. 11 to Jan. 27. In non-conference play, ULM went on a eight-game win-streak from Nov. 11 to Dec. 12. The Warhawks were ranked 22nd in last week's College Insider Women's Mid-Major Top-25.
Daisha Bradford is the team's top scorer, averaging 20.2 points per game. Jakayla Johnson and Katlyn Manuel follow, with an average of 14.7 and 10.2 points per game, respectively. Bradford also leads the team in the rebounding, assists, and steals categories.
On the Horizon
App State will head to Kalamazoo, Mich. for the season's second installment of the MAC-SBC Challenge on Saturday. The game will also mark the first meeting between the two. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. and the game will be available to stream on ESPN+.
