Mountaineers Reset Program & Facility Records in Indoor Season Opener

BOONE, N.C. -  The App State women's track and field team saw a school record and two Holmes Center facility records fall at the John Weaver Invitational meet on Friday and Saturday. The quartet of sophomores Nicole Wells, Jayla Adams, Kendall Johnson and junior Daye Talley set a new 4x300-meter relay program and facility record, while junior Ava Studney broke the Holmes Center facility record in the women's pole vault.

Wells, Adams, Johnson, and Talley stopped the clock at 2:40.58 to place first in the women's 4x300-meter relay. The previous App State program record of 2:41.58 was set in 2019 by the quartet of Jelonnie Smith, Peighton Simmons, Taylor Smith, and Jessica Dixon. Set in 2016, the previous Holmes Center record was 2:43.30 and was recorded by the quartet of Imani Chapman, Micah Hanks, Darlene Girardeau, and Catherine Crawford.

Studney was also named the John Weaver Women's Athlete of the Meet.  Graduate student Noelle Meeker took second with a clearance of 3.63m (11' 10.75"), while junior Caroline Fowlkes and freshman Abigail Goetz tied for third with clearances of 3.48m (11' 5").

Six Mountaineers advanced to the women's 55-meter finals after finishing among the top-eight in the preliminary round. Freshman Zaniya Littlejohn took third (7.15, PR), senior Mariah McCord took fifth (7.22), Wells finished seventh (7.25), and freshman Ja'Naya Linder placed eighth (7.28, PR).
