WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — For the first time, App State Wrestling is sending its team to the Wilkes Open, which is known as the "Rose Bowl of Wrestling."
Tournament competition is set for Friday, with a 9:30 a.m. start time at the Marts Center in Wilkes-Barre. The event is hosted by Wilkes University, which has a top-20 wrestling program at the Division III level. More than 300 wrestlers are registered for the open-style tournament, with competitors coming from the Division I, Division II and Division III levels.
The Mountaineers will send almost their entire team to Pennsylvania to compete. To date, their schedule with a young roster has included two duals against top-20 opponents and an appearance at the prestigious Cliff Keen Las Vegas, which has brackets with talent similar to the NCAA Championships.

Will Miller has a top-10 national ranking at 165 pounds from The Open Mat (No. 6), Intermat (No. 8) and FloWrestling (No. 9).
Carson Floyd (10-4 at 197 pounds),
Chad Bellis (8-7 at 133 pounds) and
Luke Uliano (8-6 at 174 pounds) are also veterans with big wins this season, while redshirt sophomore
Kaden Keiser is 6-5 overall with a 2-1 dual record at 149 pounds.
In last week's 40-6 victory at VMI, three Mountaineers picked up the first dual wins of their careers: redshirt freshman
Bryson Terrell (125 pounds), redshirt freshman
Jeremiah Price (12-5 record at 157 pounds) and true freshman
Stephan Monchery (heavyweight).
The 2024-25 season is presented by Hungry Howie's and Penn Station.
