CHARLESTON, S.C. – The App State women's basketball team came up short, 83-47, against the College of Charleston on the road on Tuesday.
Seniors
Zada Porter and
Asjah Inniss led the Mountaineers with eight points apiece. The duo combined for three of the Mountaineers' six treys on the night. Additionally, Porter dished out a team high three assists. It was also Porter's second game this season as a top scorer. Junior
Seneya Martinez netted seven points, while fellow juniors
Emily Hege and
Elena Pericic grabbed five rebounds apiece. The Mountaineers (3-6, 0-0 SBC) saw 27 points off the bench and 20 points in the paint.
Despite an early 1:24 scoring drought, the Cougars established a 10-0 lead in the first quarter and maintained the lead through the duration of play. Porter knocked down the Mountaineers' first trey and netted seven points in the first half. Hege, Inniss, and senior
Eleyana Tafisi combined for eight of the Mountaineers' 20 points in the first half, which included a buzzer-beating trey from Tafisi to end the first quarter. Pericic and senior
J'Mani Ingram combined for six of the Mountaineers' 15 rebounds over the course of the half. The Black and Gold held the Cougars to two fast break points in the first half.
Trailing 47-20 at halftime, the Mountaineers managed to hold the Cougars to a scoring drought over the first 2:14 of play in the third quarter. A layup from Inniss and a jumper from senior

Mara Neira knocked down a trey for the Mountaineers. App State managed to hold the College of Charleston to one second chance point in the third quarter. The Mountaineers netted 16 points in the fourth quarter, led by Martinez, who opened the quarter with a jumper and netted all seven of her points during the period. Inniss, Moffitt, and senior
Georgia Gray combined for seven points over the course of the quarter. App State also grabbed 23 rebounds to the Cougars' 13 in the second half. Despite the Mountaineers' efforts, the College of Charleston took the win, 83-47, to improve to 8-1 (0-0 CAA) on the season.
