Mountaineers Clash with Cougars in Tuesday Night Matchup

BOONE, N.C. - The App State women's basketball team is set to take on the College of Charleston on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The game will be available to stream on FloCollege. 
 
Last Time Out
The Mountaineers fell short to Wofford, 71-63, in Spartanburg, S.C. on Dec. 7. Senior Zada Porter led the Mountaineers with a career high 16 points off the bench and combined with fellow senior Mara Neira for four of App State's five treys. Senior Emily Carver pulled down a team high six rebounds in addition to her 10 points. Senior Eleyana Tafisi dished out a season and team high six assists for the Mountaineers. 
 
Around the Mountain 
Carver leads the Mountaineers, averaging 12.0 points per contest. She has scored double figures in 5-of-8 games and has been the Mountaineers' top scorer in four games this season. Junior Rylan Moffitt leads the team in the rebounds category, averaging 5.1 rebounds per contest. Moffitt was the Black and Gold's top rebounder in four consecutive contests from Nov. 20 to Dec. 1. Moffitt also matches junior Elena Pericic in the blocks category with four apiece on the season. Porter, who leads the team with 31 assists on the season, ranks fourth in the Sun Belt in assists per game, dishing out 3.9 assists per contest. Neira stands sixth in the Sun Belt in 3-point percentage (34.7%) and 3-pointers per game (2.13). Neira also leads the Mountaineers in the steals category with 14 on the season. 
 
App State remains second in the Sun Belt in assists per game (15.5). Additionally, the Mountaineers rank third in the league in field goal percentage (43.4%) and defensive rebounds per game (27.3). The Black and Gold ranks fourth in bench points per contest (28.5) and rounds out the conference's top-five in rebounds per game (40.13) and 3-pointers per game (6.8).
 
Series History vs. College of Charleston
App State leads the series against the College of Charleston, 26-18 and have won the last three games against the Cougars. 
 
The Mountaineers last met the Cougars on Dec. 5, 2023, posting a tight 77-73 victory in Boone. Carver led the team with a career high 28 points and drained three of the Mountaineers' seven treys. Moffitt pulled down a team and career high 17 rebounds and dished out a trio of assists. Moffitt also recorded a career high four blocks against the Cougars. The Mountaineers controlled the lead for the duration of play, only tying on one occasion. The Black and Gold also held the Cougars to three treys. 
 
Scouting College of Charleston
Taryn Barbot is the Cougars' top scorer and ranks third in the league in points per game, averaging 16.1 points per contest. She also ranks third in the CAA in 3-pointers per game (2.25) and fifth in 3-point percentage (32.1%). Lara Rohkohl leads the CAA and NCAA in offensive rebounds per contest, pulling down 6.0 per game. Rohkohl also leads the league and team in rebounds per game (10.9) and blocks per game (2.5). In the NCAA rankings, Rohkohl stands 11th in blocks per game and 12th in rebounds per game. Additionally, Rohkohl ranks second in the conference in total blocks (20) and third in total rebounds (87). Taylor Barbot leads the team in the assists category, dishing out an average of 4.5 per contest. She ranks second in the league in assists per game and rounds out the CAA's top-five in free throw percentage (76.9). 
 
The College of Charleston is 7-1 (0-0 CAA) on the season, only dropping a contest to North Dakota State on Dec. 1. The Cougars enter Tuesday's contest after a pair of road wins over Charleston Southern (Dec. 3) and Jacksonville State (Dec. 11). The College of Charleston won all five of their games in the opening month of play, which included a 124-26 win over Meredith on Nov. 4 and a 74-69 overtime victory over Robert Morris on Nov. 9. The Cougars also defeated North Carolina Central (Nov. 13), Iona (Nov. 20), and South Alabama (Nov. 29). 
 
The Cougars lead the CAA in 17 categories including bench points per game (33.5), field goal percentage (41.2%), made free throws per game (14.25), offensive rebounds per game (18.5), rebounds per game (44.13), steals per game (16.5), 3-pointers per game (7.9), and turnovers forced per game (29.13). In the NCAA rankings, the College of Charleston ranks second in turnovers forced per game, turnover margin (14.38), and steals per game. Additionally, the Cougars rank fourth in the NCAA in offensive rebounds per game.
 
On the Horizon 
The Mountaineers wrap their road stretch on Dec. 21 with a 2 p.m. clash against Mercer in Macon, Ga. App State will then host Arkansas State at 2 p.m. on Dec. 29 in its Sun Belt opener. Both games will be available to stream on ESPN+.
