Mountaineers Host Georgia Southern for Alumni Day

BOONE, N.C. - The App State women's basketball team is set to host Georgia Southern on Saturday for Alumni Day. Saturday's 2 p.m. game is part of a doubleheader with the men's team, which will host Coastal Carolina at 4:30 p.m. One ticket is good for admission to both women's and men's game. Both games will be available to stream on ESPN+. 
 
Due to forecasted winter weather in the morning, the pregame brunch for the App State women's basketball alumni has been canceled. Instead, alumni of the program may gather at South End Brewing Co. after the game for a happy hour. 
 
Last Time Out
The Mountaineers defeated Coastal Carolina, 73-63, on Thursday at the Holmes Center. Five Mountaineers scored double-figures, led by senior Faith Alston, who netted 15 points and 10 assists for her second double-double of the season. After Thursday's performance, Alston is now a mere 24 points away from reaching 1,000 collegiate career points. Sophomore Alexis Black and freshman Lexi Bugajski shot 3-of-4 from the arc, combining for six of the Black and Gold's 11 treys. Harris and sophomore Rylan Moffitt both pulled down eight rebounds. App State shot 40% from the field as well as from the arc. The Mountaineers also held Coastal Carolina to one 3-point bucket and seven fastbreak points. 
 
Ranked Mountaineers
In conference-only action, Harris continues to lead the league in made 3-pointers per game and stands third for 3-point percentage. Alston ranks fourth in the scoring and assists categories, while Moffitt checks in at fourth in the rebounding category. Moffitt also rounds out the top-five in the league for blocked shots and Alston rounds out the top-five for steals. As a team, App State ranks third for made 3-pointers, and fourth for team 3-point percentage. The Mountaineers also round out the top-five for combined team rebounds and team offensive rebounds. 

On the season as a whole, Alston ranks second in the league and 19th in the NCAA in free throws. She also ranks in the top-five in the SBC in total assists, assists per game, total field goals, total points, points per game, total steals, and steals per game. Moffitt checks in at second in the league for rebounds per game and third for total rebounds. She also rounds out the conference's top-five in the total blocks and blocks per game categories.
 
Last Time Against Georgia Southern
App State fell to Georgia Southern, 83-77, on Jan. 11 in Statesboro. Alston and Harris were the Mountaineers' top scorers, with Alston netting 29 points and Harris netting 20. Alston led the team with three assists, while Harris accounted for four of the Black and Gold's eight 3-point buckets. Moffitt pulled down a team-high 13 rebounds. App State held Georgia Southern to three treys and eight second-chance points. 
 
Scouting Georgia Southern
Georgia Southern is 13-5 on the season and 3-3 in Sun Belt play. Since hosting App State on Jan. 11, the Eagles have dropped contests to Old Dominion and James Madison, by margins of 20 and 21 points, respectively. Georgia Southern received votes in this week's College Insider Women's Mid Major Top-25 poll. 
 
Terren Ward continues to lead the Eagles, averaging 22.4 points per game, followed by Simone James, who averages 10.1 points per contest. Ward is also Georgia Southern's top rebounder, while Ja'nya Love-Hill leads the team in the assists category.
 
On the Horizon 
The Mountaineers will depart for a four-game road stretch, spanning from Jan. 25 to Feb. 3. App State will clash with Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. on Jan. 25 and 6:30 p.m. before heading to Harrisonburg, Va. to take on James Madison on Jan. 27 at 4 p.m. The Mountaineers will then travel to Huntington WVa. and Conway, S.C. to take on Marshall on Jan. 31 and Coastal Carolina on Feb. 3.
