Mountaineers Gear Up for Brant Tolsma Invitational

BOONE, N.C. - The App State women's track & field team is set to travel to Lynchburg, Va. for Liberty's Brant Tolsma Invitational. Action starts on Thursday with the multi-events. App State will kick off competition on Friday with the field events at 3 p.m. and track events to follow at 6 p.m. Saturday's competition is slated for an 11 a.m. start.  
 
Last Time Out 
The Mountaineers competed at the Mondo College Invite at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem. The meet was highlighted by a new meet and program 4x800-meter relay record set by sophomore Addison Ollendick-Smith, seniors Elizabeth Fuller and Jasmine Donohue, and freshman Rhys Ammon. The quartet stopped the clock at 9:27.24, surpassing the previous school record of 9:33.4, which was set in 1993. 
 
In addition to the new relay record, App State tallied 17 top-five finishes. Donohue went on the finish first in the women's 1,000 meters with a personal best of 2:58.30, which placed her at second in the App State all-time list. Freshman Kaitlyn Obremski finished second in the women's 3,000 meters with a personal best of 10:34.79. In the women's seeded 400 meters, freshman Sierra Smith finished second with a personal best of 58.05 while sophomore Daye Talley placed third in the women's seeded 200 meters with a time of 25.66. Senior Taylor Smith led the Mountaineers in the women's 60 meters with a time of 7.54, placing third overall. 
 
Four Mountaineers placed in the top-five in the women's pole vault, led by sophomore Ava Studney, who placed second with a clearance of 3.70m (12' 1.5"). In the women's shot put, junior Daiyanna Cooper took second with a toss of 13.36m (43' 10"). 
 
Ranked Mountaineers 
In the Sun Belt, Studney ranks fourth in the women's pole vault. Talley and Sierra Smith round out the top-five in the women's 200 meters and women's 400 meters, respectively. 
 
Two Mountaineers rank in the NCAA Southeast Region top-25. Sierra Smith ranks 17th in the 400 meters and senior Taylor Smith is tied with VCU's Asia Powell and North Carolina A&T's Lucheyona Weaver for 25th in the women's 60 meters. 
 
Up Next 
The Black and Gold will return to the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem for the Camel City Invitational on Jan. 26-27. The meet will be available to stream on Runnerspace +Plus steam.
