BOONE, N.C. - The App State women's basketball team will host Coastal Carolina on Thursday in the Holmes Convocation Center. Tip-off is slated for 6:30 p.m. There will be App State bucket hats for the first 250 students.
Last Time Out
App State fell to Georgia State, 73-68, in Atlanta on Saturday. Senior
Faith Alston netted 28 points, recording her third consecutive game and 11th game this season as the team's top scorer. She also accounted for three of the Mountaineers' seven treys and dished out a team-high seven assists. Sophomore Chaé Harris pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. The Mountaineers recorded 18 fastbreak points compared to Georgia State's four.
Alston is a mere 39 points away from reaching the 1,000 career points. At the conclusion of Saturday's game she has tallied 961 points. The Centerville, Va. native has scored 312 points so far this season and has scored double-figures in 15 of 16 games.
Ranked Mountaineers
For the week of Jan. 8-14, Alston led the Sun Belt in field goals, points, and points per game. She also stood sixth in the NCAA for points, ninth for points per game, and rounded out the top-10 nationally in field goals. Sophomore
Rylan Moffitt ranked second in the SBC for rebounds and rebounds per game for the week. App State checked in at second in the SBC and 18th in the NCAA for defensive rebounds per game as well as second in SBC and 22nd nationally for rebounds per game for the week.
In Sun Belt-only play, Harris leads the league in made 3-pointers per game and stands second in the 3-point field goal percentage category. Alston ranks third for points, while Moffitt stands fourth in the league for rebounding. App State ranks third for made 3-pointers and combined team rebounds.
For the season, Alston stands second in the league for free throws, while Moffitt ranks second for rebounds per game. Alston and Moffitt also check in among the SBC top-five in 15 total categories. App State ranks second in the Sun Belt and in the top-35 in the NCAA for free throws made per game. The Mountaineers also round out the top-five in the league for 3-pointers per game.
Last Time Against Coastal Carolina
App State last met Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C. on Feb. 4, 2023. The Mountaineers fell to the Chanticleers, 70-67. Three Mountaineers scored double-figures, led by
Janay Sanders, who scored 26 points, which included her 1,000th collegiate career point. Alston netted 11 points and dished out two assists while
Zada Porter netted 10 points and drained two of the Mountaineers' five treys on the afternoon.
A'Lea Gilbert pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds.
Scouting Coastal Carolina
Coastal Carolina is 7-11 on the season and 1-4 in Sun Belt play. The Chanticleers are looking to snap a three-game losing streak that spans from Jan. 6. CCU's sole conference victory was logged on Jan. 3 against Southern Miss, which had followed an SBC-opening road loss to Arkansas State on Dec. 30. In non-conference action, Coastal Carolina posted four consecutive victories from Nov. 15 to Nov. 26, which included wins over South Carolina State, Furman, Charleston Southern, and UNC Wilmington.
The Chanticleers' top scorer is Deaja Richardson, who averages 14.9 points per game. Makaila Cange and Arin Freeman average 12.6 and 12.5 points per game, respectively. Cange is Coastal Carolina's top rebounder, while Freeman leads the team in the assists category.

The action at the Holmes Convocation Center continues as App State hosts Georgia Southern as part of a doubleheader with the men's program on Jan. 20. The women's basketball team will be welcoming back their alumni for Alumni Day on Saturday. Alumni of the program are welcome to attend a pregame brunch before the game's 2 p.m. tip-off. The men's basketball game against Coastal Carolina will follow at 4:30 p.m.
