LAFAYETTE, La. – App State softball sets out for its first Sun Belt road trip of the 2023 season as the Mountaineers will play a trio of games at No. 23 Louisiana.
The squads are set to match up at 4 p.m. ET on Friday, 5 p.m. ET on Saturday and 12 p.m. ET on Sunday. All games will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live stats available to follow along.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS (15-8, 0-1 SBC)
- App State has won six of its last nine, despite dropping its last two to Marshall and North Carolina at home. Sidney Martin hit a two-run bomb against the Tar Heels before UNC pulled ahead in the sixth. Kaylie Northrop saw North Carolina's last five batters and let none of them on base, striking out four.
- Kayt Houston (.390) and Taylor Thorp (.386) have each batted themselves into the top 10 of the Sun Belt, becoming two of only nine players in the league with an average of over .380.
- Northrop has the 10th-best ERA in the conference and third lowest opposing batting average with a record of 6-2. Northrop, Delani Buckner and Sejal Neas all pitch at 2.81 or lower in the ERA column.
- The Mountaineers seek their first ranked win in program history this weekend.
SCOUTING THE #23 RAGIN' CAJUNS (21-9, 3-0 SBC)
- Louisiana swept its opening weekend of conference action against Southern Miss, out-scoring the Golden Eagles, 30-7, across three games.
- Karly Heath was named Sun Belt Player of the Week for her offensive success last weekend. Heath scored multiple runs in all three games while landing two home runs. She posted an RBI each outing as well and generated a 1.273 slugging percentage by collecting 14 total bases in 11 at-bats.
- Two Ragin' Cajuns have earned Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week honors this season: Sam Landry (Feb. 14) and Meghan Schorman (Feb. 28).
- Louisiana leads the all-time series against App State, 13-1. The Mountaineers earned their first all-time series win against the Rajin' Cajuns last season, 4-1, on Apr. 22, 2022.
UP NEXT
The Mountaineers will play a doubleheader at N.C. Central on Wednesday before returning home for a weekend series against Texas State.
