Mountaineers Visit Georgia Southern on Friday to Close Regular Season

STATESBORO, Ga. -- App State men's basketball will play its regular-season finale at Georgia Southern on Friday at 7 p.m.

The contest will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live stats and listening options available to follow along.

THE SERIES
  • This will be the 61st meeting between the two schools in a series that App State leads 34-26.
  • Georgia Southern won at the buzzer in Boone on Jan. 12, thanks to a game-winning finish by Jalen Finch. Donovan Gregory posted 21 points, four rebounds and four assists against the Eagles.
  • The Mountaineers swept all three contests against the Eagles last year.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS (16-14, 9-8 SBC)
  • App State earned its largest road win since 2005 at Georgia State on Wednesday, defeating the Panthers, 78-52.
  • Christopher Mantis led the team with 22 points and posted a career-high six 3-pointers.
  • The Mountaineers play the best defense in the Sun Belt. The team paces the league in scoring defense (64.2, 33rd in the nation) and field goal percentage defense (39.8%, 16th in the nation). The Mountaineers have held six conference opponents under 60 points.
  • Donovan Gregory leads the team in points (12.5), assists (125) and steals (49). The senior hit the 300-assist mark on Wednesday, becoming the 10th player in App State history to do so.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES (15-15, 8-9 SBC)
  • Georgia Southern defeated Coastal Carolina (76-68) on Wednesday after dropping its last two against the conference's best last week. The Eagles fell to Marshall, 83-84, on Feb. 18 before losing to Southern Miss, 62-73, on Feb. 18.
  • Andrei Savrasov leads the Eagles in scoring (13.7) and rebounding (7.4). Savrasov has scored at least 20 in five games this season, including his last matchup against the Mountaineers on Jan. 12, when he posted one of his eight double-doubles.
  • Jalen Finch is an integral part of the Georgia Southern offense, averaging 10.5 points and a team-leading 3.7 assists. He has the third-best assist/turnover ratio in the conference (2.12).
UP NEXT
The Mountaineers will head to Pensacola, Fla. for the Sun Belt Tournament. App State will play its first postseason game on Thursday, Mar. 2, having received a bye for the first round.
