Mountaineers Clash with Georgia Southern for Play4Kay Pink Game

BOONE, N.C. - The App State women's basketball team will play host to Georgia Southern on Saturday for its Play4Kay Pink game. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. and the game will be available to stream on ESPN+. 
 
There will be a silent auction benefiting the High Country Breast Cancer Foundation on the concourse level as well as the return of Chuck-A-Duck during halftime of the game. Scroll down to see the full list of auction items.

The App State field hockey, volleyball, soccer, and cheer teams will be on the concourse signing autographs for App State's exclusive National Girls & Women in Sports Day poster. The women's basketball team will be available for autographs after the game as well. 
 
Last Time Out
App State hosted Georgia State for Education Day on Thursday, defeating the Panthers, 63-55. The Mountaineers welcomed 1,700 fans and came within 123 of their home attendance record of 1,823, set on April 3, 2019, when the team won the WBI Title. Sophomore Emily Carver netted 15 points, marking her seventh game as App State's top scorer and 15th game scoring double digits this season. Junior Faith Alston led the team in rebounds (nine) and assists (seven) while contributing 13 points. The Mountaineers held the Panthers to 1-of-7 shooting behind the arc and forced 21 Panther turnovers. 
 
Around the Conference
Carver continues to lead the Sun Belt in 3-point percentage (.479) and made 3-pointers per game (3.5) in league play and remains second for 3-pointers made per game for the season. She also moved up to fourth for field goal percentage (.468) in league play and remains sixth in scoring, averaging 16 points per SBC game. Alston is sixth in the league for assists in conference play and seventh for the season as a whole.
 
App State leads the league for made 3-pointers for the season and conference play. The Mountaineers also stand second in the SBC for team 3-point percentage in conference play (.344) and fourth for team 3-point percentage for the season (.307). The Mountaineers remain fourth in the league in steals recorded in conference play, fifth in the league in scoring for the season overall and sixth for scoring in league-only play. 
 
Last Time Against Georgia Southern
On Jan. 14, App State matched its highest scoring total in an SBC victory, defeating Georgia Southern 96-88 in Statesboro. Each of App State's starters contributed at least 15 points, with Sanders leading the way with a career-high 26 points. The Black and Gold went 11-for-21 from beyond the arc, 21-for-28 from the line, and shot 50 percent from the field. In the fourth quarter, App State held Georgia Southern to 13 points. 
 
Scouting Georgia Southern
Georgia Southern is 15-7 (7-6 SBC) this season and 7-3 on the road. After falling to App State on Jan. 14, the Eagles picked up a pair of road wins against James Madison (Jan. 19) and ULM (Jan. 21) before dropping contests to Louisiana (Jan. 26) and Troy (Jan. 28). The Eagles returned to Statesboro, where they defeated Georgia State (Feb. 2) and clinched their second win of the season against JMU (Feb. 4). On their way to Boone, the Eagles clashed with Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va., bowing to the Monarchs, 67-50. 
 
Terren Ward is the Eagles' top scorer, averaging 18.1 points per game. Ward boasts a free throw percentage of .746,  field goal percentage of .416, and 3-point percentage of .395. She also leads the team in rebounds, pulling down an average of 8.0 per game, as well as steals, averaging 2.1 per contest. Leading the Eagles in assists is Ja'nya Love-Hill, who averages 4.4 per game.

The Mountaineers will travel to Norfolk, Va., and Troy, Ala., for their final regular season road trip next week. App State will clash with Old Dominion on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. before taking on Troy at 5 p.m. ET that Saturday. Both games will be available to stream on ESPN+.
