Mountaineers Finish Road Trip at South Alabama on Saturday

Mobile, Ala. -- App State men's basketball is set to visit South Alabama on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET.

The contest will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live stats and listening options available to follow along.

THE SERIES

  • This will be the 18th meeting between the two schools in a series that South Alabama leads 12-5, dating back to 2015.
  • App State has won the last two meetings, winning the most recent matchup on Feb. 19, 2022, 69-51. Donovan Gregory nearly had a triple double in that game (8 pts, 10 ast, 8 reb).

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS (14-12, 7-6 SBC)

  • App State defeated ULM on Thursday to hault a two-game skid. The Mountaineers held the Warhawks to 25% shooting from the field.
  • The Mountaineers rank 10th in the nation in field goal percentage defense and lead the Sun Belt. The Mountaineers have held their opponents to 39.1% shooting and their last four to 37% or lower (Arkansas State, Marshall, James Madison, ULM). The Black & Gold also lead in the conference in scoring defense (63.5).
  • Tyree Boykin returned from injury on Thursday after a seven-game absence and passed the 1,900-point mark for his career.
  • Dustin Kerns will enter Saturday's game with an overall head coaching record of 99-91.

SCOUTING THE JAGUARS (11-14, 5-8 SBC)

  • South Alabama dropped a close game against the Trojans on Thursday, snapping its three-game winning streak against Troy, Arkansas State and ULM.
  • Isaiah Moore leads the team in scoring (18.8). Standing 6'1", the guard shoots 53% from the floor and grabs 3.4 rebounds per game. The graduate student also leads the team in assists with 109, the same total as App State's Gregory. Moore ranks 12th in the nation in field goals made.
  • Kevin Samuel pulls down a team-high 9.3 rebounds to go along with his 10.4 points. The graduate student has posted eight double-doubles this season. Samuel has also blocked 58 shots, one shy of Justin Abson's total.
  • South Alabama ranks 21st in the nation in fewest turnovers per game (10.7).

The Mountaineers will play their last two home games of the regular season next week, hosting Texas State on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and Old Dominion on Saturday at 4 p.m.
