Hopper, Johnson Recognized as Freshman All-Americans

BOONE, N.C. — App State redshirt freshman Santana Hopper and true freshman Nate Johnson have been named to the second team of the College Football News' Freshman All-America teams.
 
After beginning the season as a defensive end, Hopper has started the last five games at defensive tackle, and he recorded a sack in the Sun Belt title game. He had a four-game stretch earlier this season that included 5.5 tackles for loss, including 1.5 sacks at ODU.
 
For the season, Hopper has 32 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and 18 quarterback pressures.
 
Johnson heads into bowl season tied for first place nationally in sacks by a freshman with 7.5. In addition to that total, he has 8.5 tackles for loss, 39 tackles and 36 quarterback pressures this season.
 
Johnson had multiple sacks in road games against James Madison and Old Dominion. He also produced sacks against East Carolina, Wyoming and ULM over three straight games and finished the regular season with half a sack against Georgia Southern.
