App State Baseball Welcomes 15 Newcomers to Program

BOONE, N.C. – App State baseball announced 15 new additions to the program heading into the 2024 season. The newcomers are comprised of five freshmen, five Junior College transfers, and five transfers from Division I institutions.
 
"We are incredibly excited to welcome all of our new additions to Boone," head coach Kermit Smith said. "We are fully committed to bringing in talented players that fit the App State mold of being high-character people and high-achieving academic students – whether that be as freshmen or as transfers – and we are thrilled to be bringing in a class that is so balanced in that regard."
 
Bret Clements           Infielder                     Fr.       5'11     160      R/R     Oak Ridge, N.C.
A freshman from Oak Ridge, N.C., Clements played his high school ball at East Forsyth. In 26 games as a senior, Clements batted .329, with 21 RBIs and nine extra-base hits, while walking eight more times than he struck out.
 
Luke Coll                   Right-handed pitcher           Fr.       6'1       170      R/R     New Boston, Mich.
A freshman from New Boston, Mich., Coll pitched for Huron High School. He was ranked the number nine overall prospect from Michigan and the second-best pitcher in the state by Perfect game. During his junior season, Coll pitched a gem against Jefferson High School, striking out 13 in a two-hit shutout. Coll features a low-90s fastball, complimented by a curveball, slider, and changeup.
 
Everette Harris         Right-handed pitcher           So.       6'2       170      R/R     Charlotte, N.C.
A sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., Harris joins the Mountaineers as a transfer from NC State. Harris made four appearances as a freshman out of the Wolfpack bullpen, striking out five batters in four innings of work. A two-time state champion at Charlotte Christian, Harris led his team to a 30-3 mark during his senior year, going 7-0 in his starts, while striking out 66 batters in 42.1 innings, posing a 1.98 ERA. He was subsequently named to the North Carolina All-State team by the Charlotte Observer. His father, Jamie Harris, was an All-Conference second baseman for the Mountaineers from 1982-84, and was a part of App State's 1984 Southern Conference championship team that advanced to the NCAA tournament.
 
Drew Holderbach     First baseman                        Gr.      6'0       190      R/R     Fairfield, Ohio
An ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove finalist in 2023, Holderback transfers to App State following one year at Rice. At the plate, Holderbach batted .266 with six home runs and 30 RBI in 56 starts for the Owls. Prior to his time at Rice, Holderbach was a four-year standout for Division III Marietta College, earning All-Mideast Region first team honors as a senior. He was also a two-time gold glove winner at first base, helping the Pioneers to their first Division III College World Series Appearance, batting over .400 his senior year. He has committed just one error in over 1,200 chances across his last three seasons.
 
Hunter Huneycutt    Utility                                     Fr.       5'9       170      S/R      Laurinburg, N.C.
A freshman from Laurinburg, N.C., Huneycutt joins the Mountaineers out of Pinecrest High School, where he played pitcher, catcher and shortstop. Huneycutt was named an honorable mention All-State by High School OT, hitting .400 and slugging .448, with 18 RBIs and nine stolen bases. He also collected all-conference recognition.
 
Cody Little                 Right-handed pitcher           Jr.       6'0       175      R/R     Clearwater, Fla.
Little transfers to App State from Palm Beach State College, where he played two seasons for the Panthers. In eight starts in 2023, Little went 3-1 with a 4.25 ERA, striking out 52 batters in 42.1 innings of work. As a freshman in 2022, Little was named first team All-Conference, posting a 2.23 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 60.2 innings, while earning six wins. Little's arsenal is highlighted by a low-90s fastball, which generates a lot of swings-and-misses. Little played for Seminole High School, and as a senior he batted .324 while posting a 0.76 ERA on the mound.
 
Kameron Miller                    First Baseman           Fr.       6'1       2202 R/R        Harrisburg, N.C.      
Miller joins the Mountaineers after playing his high school ball at Hickory Grove Christian. As a senior, Miller batted .446 with five doubles, seven home runs, and 34 RBI in 26 games, while walking more times than he struck out. Miller was named first team All-Conference and second team All-State.
 
Dillon Moquin                       Outfielder      FR       L/R     6'0       195      Coral Springs, Fla.
A national champion at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., Moquin was twice named to the All-State team, posting a .400 on-base percentage as a senior. In 41 games he scored 32 runs, and did not commit a single error defensively. He also went a perfect nine-for-nine in stolen base attempts. Moquin won the "Eagle Award" given to the player who best represents the program's values. Moquin also played for the club baseball, where he was a three-time Perfect Game Champion, and was named to nine Perfect Game All-Tournament teams. He was ranked as a three-star recruit, and a top-500 player nationally for his class.
 
Adam Quintero                     Infielder         Jr.       R/R     6'0       170      Monroe, N.C.
Quintero transferred to App State from Gaston College in Dallas, N.C. Last season for the Rhinos, Quintero led the team with a .399 average to go along with 10 home runs, 17 doubles, and 64 RBIs in 55 games. Quintero began his college career at William & Mary, where he played in 17 games and made seven starts as a freshman in 2022. A two-time All-State selection at Piedmont High School, Quintero batted .546 his senior year. His grandfather, John Mains, played baseball at Ohio State.
 
Graham Smiley                     Catcher          R-Fr.   R/R     6'0       195      Denver, N.C.
Smiley transferred from NC State midway through last season, but was required to sit out the year due to NCAA transfer regulations. Smiley was a teammate of Jordan Fisher at East Lincoln High School in Denver, N.C. where he was ranked as the No. 20 catcher in the nation his senior year, and the No. 330 prospect nationally. As a senior he batted .367 with 11 doubles, six home runs, and 30 RBI in 29 games played.
 
Clayton Stewart                    Right-handed pitcher           R-SO  6'4       215      Lexington, S.C.
A redshirt sophomore from Lexington, S.C., Stewart joins the Mountaineers after playing a season at Florence-Darlington Tech where he made six appearances in 2023, striking out seven batters in 5.2 innings. Prior to that, Stewart redshirted as a freshman at USC Upstate. Stewart features a low-90s fastball, complimented by a high-spin rate slider. Stewart attended the Ben Lippen School in Columbia, S.C. where he played both baseball and football.
 
Banks Tolley                          Outfielder      Gr.      R/R     5'11     180      Madison, Miss.
Tolley transferred to the Mountaineers after two seasons at Ole Miss, where he played in 26 games for the Rebels, and was a part of their National Championship team in 2022. He began his college career at Meridian Community College where he was named All-Region and All-Conference in 2021, after batting .417 with 17 doubles, 13 home runs and 54 RBIs. Tolley led St. Andrews High School to a state championship in 2018, and was named a two-time first team All-District honoree. Tolley played for the Kalamazoo Growlers over the summer, where he slugged ten home runs in 44 games, which was tied for fifth-most in the league.
 
Max Taramontana                Right-handed pitcher           R-Fr.   R/R     6'2       185      Cincinnati, Ohio
Taramontana transferred to App State after spending his true freshman season at Iowa. A Collegiate Baseball second-team All-American out of Archbishop Moeller High School, Taramontana went 8-0 with a 0.86 ERA as a senior, striking out 85 batters in 57 innings of work. His high school pitching career was highlighted by a pair of no-hitters, in addition to a conference title and a regional runner-up finish. 
 
Joseph Zamora                     Infielder         Jr.       S/R      5'10     175      Miami, Fla.
Zamora joins the Mountaineers after playing two seasons as a middle infielder for Miami Dade College. Last spring, Zamora batted .326 and drove in 33 runs in 49 games. He walked 31 times compared to 23 strikeouts, for an on-base percentage of .427 on the campaign. Zamora was named a first team All-Southern Conference selection in addition to being named to the state's all-tournament squad. His brother, Freddy Zamora, played shortstop for Miami, and is now playing professionally in the Milwaukee Brewers organization after being drafted in the second round of 2020. Zamora was born in Managua, Nicaragua and is bilingual.  
 
Jack Zang                              Left-handed pitcher  So.       L/L      6'4       210      Dearborn, Mich.
Zang comes to Boone after competing for Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Mich. as a freshman. He impressed on the mound, striking out 73 batters in 51 innings of work, going 5-2 with a 3.35 ERA for the Ocelots. Following the season, Zang was named the Eastern Conference Co-Player of the Year, in addition to being named first team All-Conference and Freshman of the Year. Zang played his high school ball for Dearborn Divine Child, and his senior season was highlighted by a 16-strikeout performance in the Divisional Championship game.
