App State Hosts Troy on Saturday Afternoon

BOONE, N.C. -- App State men's basketball is set to host Troy on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Holmes Center.

The contest will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live stats and listening options available to follow along.

THE SERIES
  • This will be the 21st meeting between the two schools in a series that App State leads 11-9.
  • The Trojans have won the last four contests, dating back to Jan. 2, 2021.
  • App State last defeated Troy on Jan. 1, 2021.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS (9-9, 2-3 SBC)
  • App State fell at the buzzer against Georgia Southern on Thursday, despite heroic efforts from Donovan Gregory, who scored 21 points and tied the game with five seconds remaining. The loss came after back-to-back wins last weekend over Coastal Carolina and James Madison.
  • App State ranks 41st in the nation in field goal percentage defense and leads the Sun Belt. The Mountaineers have held their opponents to 40% shooting from the field.
  • Justin Abson ranks 15th in the country in blocks (39). The freshman has blocked seven shots in the last two games.
  • Since the calendar's turn, CJ Huntley has stepped up his game, averaging 9.6 points and 7.4 rebounds during conference matchups.
SCOUTING THE TROJANS (12-6, 4-1 SBC)
  • Troy sits atop the SBC standings, thanks to four consecutive wins over Texas State, Old Dominion, Arkansas State and Georgia State. The team's lone conference loss came against Southern Miss by four, two days before the Golden Eagles defeated App State by six.
  • Zay Williams has been the primary scorer in conference play, averaging 14.2 points per game and shooting over 56% from the field. The senior has scored in double-figures in 12 of his last 13 games.
  • The day before App State's win over Louisville in Nov., the Trojans had an ACC win of their own, topping Florida State, 79-72. Aamer Muhammad and Christyon Eugene combined for 45 points to earn the victory.
  • When holding their opponent under 40 percent, the Trojans are 8-0 (4-0 SBC). Meanwhile, they are 4-3 when the opponent shoots between 40 and 50 percent and 0-3 when above 50 percent.
