Mountaineers Gear Up for Mondo College Invite

BOONE, N.C. - The App State women's track and field team will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. for the Mondo College Invite on Saturday at the JDL Fast Track. Events on the track will start at 9 a.m. and field events will start at 10 a.m.       
 
Last Time Out
The Black and Gold kicked off the 2022-23 indoor season with the John Weaver Invitational on Dec. 2-3. Six Mountaineers garnered gold as the team finished first overall with 145 points. Senior Taylor Smith cliched a pair of first-place finishes and personal bests in the women's 55 meters (6.90) and women's long jump (6.15m (20' 2.25")). Smith stands fourth in the App State all-time list for the women's 55 meters. Fellow senior Jada Branch landed first in the women's triple jump with a leap of 12.52m (41' 1"). 
 
In her collegiate debut, freshman Ava Studney recorded a clearance of 3.57m (11' 8.5") to place first in the women's pole vault. In the women's weight throw, sophomore Graysen Arnold garnered gold with a personal best toss of 17.00m (55' 9"). 
 
On the track, freshman Addison Ollendick-Smith finished first in the women's 800 meters (2:17.60, PR), while graduate student Hunter Robinson took first in the women's 300 meters (39.20, PR). 
 
Ranked Mountaineers
In the NCAA, three Mountaineers rank in the top-50 in their respective events. Smith is fifth in the nation in the women's long jump and 15th in the women's 60 meters. Branch stands ninth in the women's triple jump and Ollendick-Smith is 35th in the women's 800 meters. 
 
Smith leads the Sun Belt Conference in the women's 60 meters and women's long jump. Branch leads the league in the women's triple jump and stands fourth in the SBC in the long jump. Ollendick-Smith, senior Elizabeth Fuller, and sophomore Regan Hodge take the top three spots in the conference in the women's 800 meters. Studney lands fourth in the SBC in the pole vault category, while sophomore Daiyanna Cooper ranks fifth in the women's shot put. Arnold checks in at fourth in the league in the women's weight throw with Cooper following at fourth. 
 
Up Next
App State will host the App State Split Open on Jan. 20 at the Holmes Convocation Center. Events on the track are scheduled for a 4 p.m. start with the women's 5,000 meters. Field events are slated for a 5 p.m. start with the women's shot put, women's long jump, and women's pole vault.
