Mountaineers Head to ETSU for Midweek Doubleheader

BOONE, N.C. -- Following a three-game Sun Belt series at Troy that ended with a doubleheader on Friday, the App State softball team (23-18) steps out of conference play and travels to ETSU (5-37) for another doubleheader on Tuesday. The first game of the day is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m. and both games will be streamed on ESPN+.

This will be the second midweek doubleheader between App State and ETSU this season. These two teams were originally scheduled to play their first doubleheader on March 16 before the games were postponed to April 6. The Mountaineers took the win in both of those contests, winning the first game 8-1 before blanking the Bucs 8-0 in the nightcap. Tuesday's journey to Johnson City, Tenn. will cap off a five-game road trip for the Mountaineers. App State comes into this contest having been undefeated in non-conference play since the last time these two teams met.

The Mountaineers enter this matchup with a lot of contributors on the offensive side of the ball. The team ranks fourth in the Sun Belt with a team batting average of .275, tallying 44 home runs on the year which ranks third in the conference. Kayt Houtson and Mary Pierce Barnes are both in the top five in the league in hits. Houston's average of .387 has also seen her register a conference-best 53 hits, 34 RBIs and 11 home runs. Emma Jones leads the conference with 41 runs scored.

The App State pitching staff heads into Tuesday's doubleheader with a team ERA of 3.12. Delani Buckner has picked up ten wins on the year, ranking seventh in the Sun Belt with an ERA of 3.24 while tallying 91 punch outs.

Tuesday will be the last non-conference doubleheader that the Mountaineers play in this season. They have won their last four games against non-conference opponents and have beaten ETSU in five consecutive matchups.
