KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — This week, App State Baseball will play in a minor league ballpark for the third and fourth time so far this season, starting with a Tuesday appearance in Atrium Health Ballpark for a matchup with Davidson.
Davidson will host the Mountaineers (5-6) in the nearby home of the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m., and the game will be shown on ESPN+.
Of App State's first 11 games, only a midweek game against South Carolina has been against an out-of-state foe.
The Mountaineers have weekend series wins against Campbell (two games to one) and UNC Wilmington (two games to one). In its first two midweek games, App State held a 4-1 lead in an 8-5 loss to reigning ACC champion Duke and followed a 10-1 win at UNCG by grabbing a 5-0 lead in a 9-6 loss against South Carolina last Tuesday.
Davidson is 9-3 this season with 12 games at its on-campus stadium. The Wildcats most recently split a four-game weekend series against Columbia.
Following a run as SoCon counterparts, App State dropped games in 2015 and 2016 in its most recent meetings with Davidson, which has eight straight winning seasons, including a Super Regional appearance in 2017.
