BANNER ELK, N.C. – App State women's tennis defeated Lees-McRae 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Mountaineers (2-8, 0-1 SBC) started the day by winning the doubles point. Virginia Poggi and Erika Dodridge posted a 6-1 win at the No. 2 doubles position. Helena Jansen and Ellie Murphy followed that with a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles position to clinch the point. Olwyn Ryan-Bovey and Brooke Gruber also finished their match at No. 3 doubles, winning 6-1.
In singles action, the Mountaineers won every match. Jansen led off for the Mountaineers, posting a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles.
At the No. 2 singles position, Dodridge won 6-1, 6-2 as Murphy won her match 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles to clinch the win for App State.
At the No. 4 singles slot, Poggi won her match 6-3, 7-6 (6). Ryan-Bovey followed that with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 5 position.
Gruber grabbed the first singles win of her career at the No. 6 position, winning 7-6 (5), 6-1.
The Mountaineers will head home to host UT Arlington on Friday at 10 a.m.
