GREENVILLE, N.C. -- App State women's tennis captured the doubles point, but fell 4-1 at East Carolina on Saturday afternoon.
Helena Jansen and
Ellie Murphy (0-2) got the Mountaineers off to a strong start. winning at No. 1 doubles by a 6-0 score. After the Pirates (1-1) won at No. 3 doubles,
Erika Dodridge and
Virginia Poggi clinched the point for App State with a 6-2 triumph at No. 2 doubles.
In singles action, Jansen lost a tight 6-4, 6-3 match at No. 1 singles and Dodridge fell 6-4, 7-6 (3) at the No. 2 singles position.Â
Poggi dropped a three-set match at No. 3 singles that saw the final set go the distance to a tiebreaker by a 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (2) score.
Murphy was up a set at No. 4 singles and
Olwyn Ryan-Bovey had split sets at No. 5 singles when the match was called.
The Mountaineers play next on Wednesday at Radford at 2 p.m. App State then returns to the High Country on Feb. 12 for its home opener against Davidson at noon.
