RADFORD, Va. – App State women's tennis suffered a tough 4-3 setback at Radford on Wednesday.
The Highlanders (1-1) opened play by winning the doubles point, getting victories on the No. 1 and No. 3 court. The tandem of
Erika Dodridge and
Virginia Poggi posted a 7-6 (6) win at No. 2 doubles to improve to 2-1 on the season.
In singles action, App State (0-3) recorded a trio of three-set victories. Dodridge fell in the first set, but rallied for a 6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles. Poggi won at No. 3 singles 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 and
Olwyn Ryan-Bovey posted a 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 victory at 5th singles.
Brooke Gruber dropped a tight three-set match at No. 6 singles 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
The Mountaineers play next on Saturday, hosting Davidson in their home opener at noon.
