BOONE, N.C. — Make it back-to-back SoCon Wrestler of the Month awards for App State, as
Jonathan Millner has been honored for his unblemished January.
App State teammate
Will Formato won the award for December.
Ranked No. 4 nationally in the 149-pound weight class by Intermat, Millner went 4-0 last month with a decisive 8-3 decision against Duke's Josh Finesilver, who carried a ranking of No. 8 into that match and had a 22-2 record that included a pair of losses to Millner.
Millner's 2-0 record last month in SoCon duals featured an opening-minute pin against Gardner-Webb and a 19-4 tech fall against VMI. His other match was a 4-0 shutout of Little Rock's Joseph Bianchi, who took a 12-5 record into that showdown.
Millner and App State (5-2, 3-0) return to action Sunday afternoon at Chattanooga, which is 2-1 in SoCon duals with a close loss to Campbell. The Mountaineers are four spots outside the NWCA Coaches Poll's Top 25, with three voting points, and they are listed at No. 11 in this week's NWCA Division I Mid-Major Wrestling Coaches Poll.
The 2021-22 wrestling season is presented by Hungry Howie's and Penn Station.
