NEW ORLEANS, La. -- App State men's basketball senior
Adrian Delph has been named First Team All-Sun Belt, the conference announced Monday.
It marks the second All-Sun Belt honor for the Gastonia, N.C. native, after earning Third Team All-Sun Belt honors last season.
Delph enjoyed a strong season, posting career bests in scoring (17.3 ppg), rebounding (5.5 rpg) and assists (58). His scoring average of 17.3 points ranks second in the Sun Belt and his 536 total points led the league and sits 14th in program history. In addition, his 94 made 3-pointers rank as the fifth most in single season program history.
Delph also had a strong conference season, reaching double figures in scoring in every game and averaging 19.0 points (third in the Sun Belt) and 5.9 rebounds.Â
Earlier this season, Delph had a career night against Delaware, pouring in a career-high 39 points on a career-best 13 made field goals and a career-high tying seven made threes. He made his first 10 shots of the contest and it was the most points scored by a Mountaineer in a game since 2019.
In all, Delph reached double figures in 29 of 31 games on the season and had five or more rebounds in 19 contests. He also had two double-doubles, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds at UT Arlington on Feb. 5 and 19 points and 11 rebounds on Feb. 10 against Georgia Southern.
He scored the 1,000th point of his career earlier this season on Nov. 24 against Vermont. He now has 1,423 points in his career, which sits 15th in program history.
He becomes the second App State player to earn First Team honors in the Sun Belt, joining teammate
Justin Forrest, who did so in the 2019-20 season. He also is the 15th player in program history to be named First Team All-Conference since App State moved to Division I in the 1971-72 season and the honor marks the 22nd time a Mountaineer has achieved the feat.
Delph and the Mountaineers finished with a 12-6 record in Sun Belt play to earn the No. 2 seed in the Sun Belt Tournament, their highest since joining the conference.. App State will open play in the tournament on Saturday against either No. 7 seed Coastal Carolina or No. 10 seed Georgia Southern on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. EST on ESPN+.
